Can you see the building behind Monkey It is the Barak Building by ARM Architecture (2015), an apartment building with a facade that is shaped to look like the image of Aboriginal elder William Barak. The image is stunning when seen from the air (Google it), but if you look closer (zoom in), you will not be able to see the image! Super cool contemporary Melbourne architecture! (Save the!) Marion Cultural Centre, Adelaide, South Australia. ARM Architecture and Phillips Pilkington Architects in Association, 2002. Marion Cultural Centre is at at risk of being demolished and replaced by a hotel. Surely one of the finest cultural centres in the country, beloved by its community, it’s loss would be a travesty. Like we need another pub! Sign the petition! --------------------------------------------------- With the appointment of a contractor late last week, we’re excited to share some images of our new Chancellery Building by ARM. The Chancellery replaces an introspective, inflexible facility with a new, outward facing building that engages with its campus setting - at the heart of the Monash National Employment and Innovation Cluster . Public engagement and function spaces characterise the ground plane, which responds to the university’s masterplan, landscape and public art visions in novel and impactful ways. A covered colonnade, and gardens by Openwork, further integrate the building to its campus setting . The design of the Chancellery supports Monash’s vision for a morning to midnight campus that fully engages with the surrounding community. This delightful if rather hidden thing in #JohnstonePark in #Geelong is their #WarMemorial to WW1 but rather nicely is called the #PeaceMemorial. Built in 1922 it takes the form of a large foyer (because it was meant to lead to a memorial hall, never built), that never seems to be open. Designed by #LairdAndBuchan, with a young #PercyEverett, its a late example of #EdwardianBaroque, matching the Bostock wing of Gordon College to the west. They also designed the even more delightful #bandstand built in 1919, both part of a new formal axis across the park- interesting to see the new #ARMarchitecture library isn’t quite on that axis.

Construction has well and truly commenced on our new @monash_uni Chancellery Building and our team have made sure that Christmas will come early for the Clayton Campus. How's this for a stocking full; the basement is already complete, the core installation commencing AND the ground floor slab is being prepared for pour prior to the holiday period!
