I was so honored (and excited!) when the lovely @headrushdesigns asked me to do her hair!! It’s always the nicest compliment when a bada** stylist babe wants to sit in my chair . As hairstylists, we tend to neglect ourselves and our hair like crazy because who has time?! And she is no exception!! She had been doing foils on herself through the top and was ready to add some brightness around her hairline and bring some dimension throughout the interior. . She had enough grow out through the back and sides that it made it easy to just connect it a little with paint and a little low lighting. I did babylights all around her face and teased through the top. Shampooed with @matrix #sosilver to help pre-tone and kick some yellow, then glossed and applied the Triple Power Mask for moisture and voila! Fact: It can take 1-2 weeks for your cuticle to fully close after a chemical service. This is why you should always wait AT LEAST 48 hours before washing your hair for the first time after your service, and as little as possible for the next week or 2 to really give your hair time to lock in that gloss/color But Amyyyy....my hair gets so gross. What can I do? . Wear a hat.. . Haha just kidding. Invest in a good dry shampoo, sister. After trying 7 different kinds....I finally found my favorite, which is @amika dry shampoo from @saloncentric. I spray it where I need it, rub it in a little and then let it dry on it’s own. It turns white like I just dumped baby powder on my head, but that just means it’s doing its job. After it’s fully dry, I flip my hair over and hit it with my blow dryer. It gets rid of the powder, gives me volume/ texture, and gives me the BEST refresh ever and lasts all day. Plus it smells good ‍♀️ But most importantly, my gloss seals in and gives me the longevity I need after investing in my hair. . That’s my favorite dry shampoo....what’s yours?!

We all have them. Hair heroes. The ones who’s pages we come to to be inspired, who we look up to, who teach us invaluable techniques and information, and help us to improve who we are as artists behind the chair. It’s wonderful to have hair heroes (I know I do!) and these are all good things! But sometimes, after a long and really challenging day at work when we didn’t quite nail that balayage or new technique we thought we could master.....it’s easy to suddenly turn in ourselves and, even though we may be inspired....we end up comparing ourselves and our work to our “hair heroes” and THEIR work...,(or just other people in general) and it can get us into a negative headspace REAL quick where we tell ourselves that we suck or we will never “get to where they are” or whatever bullcrap we tell ourselves. . Sweet friend, can I please just remind you that just because we allow these thoughts to come into our head, that does NOT make them actual truth? EVERYONE.....including your “hair heroes” started somewhere. They messed up plenty of hair before they got it right. They had outcomes that they weren’t thrilled with, and outcomes their clients weren’t thrilled with. They melted hair, did some weird placements, and created some oopsie spots. I can guarantee you that they cried, questioned their career choice and maybe even thought about giving up. So next time you find yourself comparing your journey to others and thinking negatively about yourself, I want you to do me a favor. I want you to take that lie captive, and throw it into the fire where it belongs. It is ok and completely normal to make mistakes. That is literally how you learn. Every mistake you make you will come back from stronger than ever, and as long as you don’t give up and you don’t quit trying, you WILL get it....and sister, I can’t wait to see it when you do! . In a sea of “Instagram perfection,” I think we should start a movement where we share our imperfections as well and bring some real ness back into the ‘gram. Wanna hear some of MY beginning mistakes? My advice: If you hear this sentence and RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! Chances are you won’t Be able to make that person happy either and it’s not because you suck. We’re in the business of making people happy and feel good, but when clients have unrealistic expectations it leads to disappointment. It’s ok to say to someone “ I don’t think we’re a good fit”. I have no problem turning clients down whenever I get the feeling the expectations are not reality and I’m gonna be dealing with a headache after I’m done. I encourage you to do the same.
