This is the reason we practice Dharma — to become a better person, to ease our burdens, and to connect more deeply with others. The #foundations include #loving and #respecting yourself, being curious about #samsara, and having some understanding of the #universe and the #nature of #suffering. This is how we find true meaning behind #life’s activities. Here is a brief summary of the teaching: Dharma is not about #worshipping or about achieving samsaric success in your life. It is about understanding that everything is #impermanent and that #attachments cause suffering. We must ask ourselves if we are really enjoying our lives, if we are truly happy when we buy a new mobile phone, when we buy 50 pairs of shoes, or with our partners. Is there #appreciation, or is there #jealousy? We should examine these kinds of things. Then, we can practice Dharma, finding a path towards #truehappiness — motivated not by the power of #blessings, let’s say, but by this deeper #understanding. As we practice Dharma and aspire for #Buddhahood, objects like statues and malas are there to remind us of Buddha’s teachings, while our minds aren’t strong enough yet. We don’t want to view Dharma as simply praying or worshipping, but rather, as something that will help transform our minds. For example, by refraining from killing, by sincerely wanting to improve yourself, happiness will develop. If you are a #Tara practitioner, you will develop a strong wish to liberate from sufferings. If you chant the Six Syllable Manta, you will develop stronger compassion for all beings. These are ways to practice Dharma rooted in understanding, and you have 100% control of your #mind and how to develop it. Do not let others control it, use it to examine your life and deepen your practice.
