I have made a lot of new friends here over the past couple of weeks! So i decided to face my fear and come out from the other side of the camera to properly introduce myself. ‍♀️ . My husband and I recently got married on St. Patrick’s Day and I loved so many things about planning the biggest party of our lives. . I had a wonderful conversation with a friend the other day about learning how to be mindful of ones time, how to say no to certain “obligations” and learning that it is okay to admit that you need some down time. . It was a great reminder for me as we approach such a festive season. I love to be social, my husband is so social that I refer to him often as the mayor, we have large families who love to be social. . I used to be a yes girl. Yes to dinner. Yes to happy hour. Yes to lunch. (I’ll save you some reading times and just tell you if food was involved, I said yes.) I would say yes to jobs, yes to helping anyone, yes to favors, yes, yes, yes. . Last year, as I was running around like an elf with my head cut off, tears in my eyes, tired and wildly overwhelmed - I made a decision to just try saying no. No, it was not easy. It was super uncomfortable, so uncomfortable in fact that I set a monthly alarm to remind myself why it is okay to say no. . I am 11 months into my practice and I still love to help, I am still very social and I still say yes. The difference is though my friends, that I am mindful of my time now. I am actually able to be more present, I am more rested, more organized, more fun and I am so much less stressed. . So if you find that you are a yes girl too and it feels like you are standing on quicksand - just know that it is okay to take back your time and say no.
