116. Dark Knight Returns - The Showdown Ver.2 (1986). Back when I started these Chubbies, they were never meant to be 100% accurate. They were mainly an outlet for me at the end of the day where I’d draw one of my favorite Batman costumes from memory. However as time went on, I started to get more in tune with matching the costumes accurately, specifically colour palettes used in the comic/movie etc. It was no longer just a guessing game, but now more so a matching game. So I’m posting this DKR Armor Batman now because it’s based on the desaturated colour palette used at the end of the book. It’s more accurate to what Frank Miller depicted. My previous post was a more pop/animated version of the classic suit. Do you have a preference? 80 years of the BAT! Thought today I would celebrate by picking up a new comic book box to put my Batman comics in.. since the one they’re in now is not good enough! Thanks for following me on my adventure if you watched my IG story Thought I would highlight some of my favorite/most memorable issues of the current Batman series. Tom King is my favorite current writer and has been since I picked up the 1st issue of Vision. Immediately after that book ended, it was announced he would be on Batman Rebirth. That was a big deal at the time, he moved his way over to DC which I believe is a better fit for him, creatively. And I started picking up the comic from the very first issue and have collected every single one after that! I’m very proud as this because it’s the longest ongoing series I’ve ever collected. And will continue to collect until 103! (He didn’t write 3 of the issues and has to go to 103 to make the complete 100.) From the beginning, to the button, to the wedding, to many Mattina variants, King’s team-up with Gerads for issue 62, and everything in between. Not to mention Tom Taylor’s amazing Annual #3, a highlight of this series. The book has had it’s up and downs but we’re past the halfway mark and I’m so excited to see where he goes with it. 102. Norm Breyfogle II (1987). Here it is, the crown jewel! I wanted to end my series with my favorite Batman of all time. #NormBreyfogle Batman! I posted one a while back on Father’s Day (which you can see in slide No.2) but wanted to save this specific one for the end. Originally when creating all of these, I designed a Norm Batman from memory and was/still am very happy with it. However, I wanted to push things even closer to looking like a traditionally lit Norm drawing (feel free to checkout slide No.3 to see the reference). As I mentioned in my Father’s Day Post, this specific artist was the man who drew the covers I remember seeing as a kid at the comic store with my Grandfather. The Art has left a big impact, and continues to inspire my style. I hope anyone who hasn’t seen Breyfogle’s Batman has the chance to google it. Checkout the man’s art because he’s a legend. There is even a great page dedicated to him here @normbreyfogleart where you can find a lot of his work.
