Hoo boy! ‍♀️ It’s been a hot minute, Instagram! I’ve been super busy this week with client work, then the universe decided to throw me a nice little Friday treat yesterday— feeling sick and having to go to bed by 10pm. I’m feeling better today though, thankfully! ⁣ ‍♀️ Some highlights from this week:⁣ ⁣ ⚡️ I’ve planned out a bunch of new content for my blog (and beyond) which will be coming VERY soon. I don’t want to give away too much but here’s a hint: I’ve got a helluva lot of Pinterest marketing guides coming your way.⁣ ⁣ ⚡️ My boyfriend and I booked our weekend away to Leeds Festival! I’m FINALLY getting to see my favourite band, The 1975! For the first time! I’m so stoked. SO STOKED.⁣ ⛺️ ⁣ Tell me, what have you been up to this week?

There are a lot of things I love about freelancing full-time. I love the satisfaction I get from working for myself, I love making new, long-lasting connections, I love the freedom that comes with it— I’m not kidding when I say the list could go on and on.⁣ ‍♀️⁣ ⁣⁣ Wanna know one thing I hate about freelancing full-time? The oodles and oodles of freelancer self-doubt I feel on a literal DAILY BASIS.⁣ I’m being real. I wish I was kidding. ‍♀️⁣ ⁣⁣ We all feel self-doubt at some point in our lives. It’s inevitable, because we’re only human. But when I only really have myself to answer to at the end of the day, it’s like it’s heightened one-thousand-fold. And it’s so yikes. ⁣⁣ “Will they like it?⁣”⁣ ⁣⁣ “Am I doing enough?⁣”⁣ ⁣⁣ “What happens if I stop getting work?⁣”⁣ ⁣ “Can I even do this at all?”⁣ ⁣⁣ I have these thoughts almost every day (no exaggeration) and some days it’s really, really hard to wrestle with them. But, no matter how scary or downright terrifying this chapter in my life can be at times, I always strive to push forward instead of letting the self-doubt paralyse me.⁣⁣ ‍♀️ ⁣⁣ ⚡️ I AM capable.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⚡️ I’ve GOT this.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ What are your tips for dealing with self-doubt?

Brands, here’s the thing. Your copy needs to stop talking AT your audience. Look, I get it. You want your brand to sound professional. You want to sound respected. But at the risk of sounding... emotionless? Robotic? Like you’re talking AT your audience, as if they’re back in the classroom, instead of talking TO them?⁣ ‍♀️ ⁣ This is where the magic of conversational, personality-driven copy comes in. Conversational copy is copy that sounds and feels like you. It’s copy that feels like a real conversation, like you’re meeting a friend for a coffee. And, contrary to popular belief, it’s possible to craft copy that is both conversational AND professional. Crazy, right? ⁣ Conversational copy converts. Here’s why:⁣ ⁣ ⚡️ It feels human. I can tell you, for a fact, that your audience does not want to interact with a sales robot or a faceless corporate entity. They want to interact with YOU. They want to feel heard and valued. At the end of the day, people do business with people, not companies.⁣ ⁣ ⚡️ It’s easier to understand. ‘Professional’ copy is typically loaded with jargon and industry buzzwords and that’s just… ZzzZzz. It’s like, cool, we get it, you know what you’re talking about— but you’ve lost us. Good copy makes it easy for your audience to understand exactly what it is you do and why they should care. It’s been a hot minute since I popped on here to say hello and ask how’s things, and I’ve gained some new followers since last time too, so hi!⁣ ‍♀️ ⁣ My name is Katy and I’m a twenty-something millenial. I live in Belfast, Northern Ireland with my boyfriend of 6 years and, if you couldn’t already tell, I work full-time from home, running my own creative biz!⁣ I’m full-time freelance copywriter, content writer and social media manager. ‍ ⁣ Outside of running my own biz, I have HUGE love for music. I keep saying I want to start a music blog as a passion project, but like, TIME, am I right?! I need more hours in the day. My favourite bands are The 1975 and Panic! At The Disco, and I LIVE for travelling to new cities for gigs/festivals. Next on my agenda is Leeds Festival this year.⁣ ⛺️ ⁣ I also have huge love for TV and film— my boyfriend and I are currently rewatching LOST (well, he’s watching for the first time) and y’all— Y’ALL. I love that show so much. SO MUCH. Honestly, don’t even get me started on it because I could talk about it all day, especially about the finale and how it definitely didn’t deserve the backlash it received…⁣ ⁣ One of the coolest things I’ve ever gotten to do is body-double for a major character on Game of Thrones.⁣ ⁣ But enough about me. Full-time freelancing: I’m officially 3 months in. Time has flown, but when I look back at where I was just 3 months ago, I feel such overwhelming pride. I’ve come a long way since then— working on really cool projects, forming lasting friendships with some really cool people. Here’s to many, many more months, y’all.⁣ ‍♀️ ⁣ That being said, if there’s one thing I’ve struggled with in those 3 months, it’s giving myself time off when I need it WITHOUT feeling guilty about it.⁣ Yep. It’s a struggle. ⁣ The only times I’ve really given myself time off have been when I’ve been sick or SO exhausted I couldn’t even lift my head. I absolutely, categorically DO NOT recommend this approach to running your small biz.⁣ Don’t do it y’all. Don’t! ⁣ As much as I want to nurture my small biz and put every effort into growing it, do I really want to do it at the expense of my physical and mental health? Hell no.⁣ ‍♀️ ⁣ So, yesterday, with it being a bank holiday, I actually gave myself some time off. Not because I was sick, not because I was flat-out exhausted— because I deserved it and I, for once, REFUSED to feel guilty about it.⁣ And it was lovely. ⁣ If you struggle with the same mentality, remember this: REST IS PRODUCTIVE. You can’t give your all to your hustle if you’re not giving your all to yourself. Stop feeling guilty about taking much-needed time off. You’re working your ass off and YOU DESERVE IT. YOU. DESERVE. IT.⁣ ⁣ Tell me, how did you spend your bank holiday?

I don’t think anything could have prepared me for the bouts of overwhelming anxiety that come with full-time freelancing/running your own small biz. ⁣ Don’t get me wrong— I love what I do. I’m much happier working for myself and it is ENDLESSLY rewarding.⁣ ⁣ However, that’s certainly not to say that I haven’t had my fair share of, “Oh shit. What am I doing?!” moments. Oh, I’ve had PLENTY of those.⁣ ⁣ But I think one of the most important lessons I’ve learned since embarking on this full-time freelance adventure is that celebrating the tiny victories is SO important. When I start to freak out about where I’m headed, I remember that I’m SO much closer to my goals than I was yesterday, last week and last month. I’ve come a long way in just 3 months, and I’m damn proud of myself.⁣ ‍♀️ ⁣ What tiny victories are you celebrating this week?
