*LIVING IN COLOMBIA* If you saw my last post, then you already heard the news... I’m living in Colombia!!! On June 1st, I grabbed my giant ass suitcase and hopped on a plane bound for Cartagena—a city with a unique history, a beautifully preserved historical city center, great beaches, and so much more. Besides absolutely loving this city when I visited last November, I was also in need of a change, so this place seemed like the perfect city to retreat to. After nearly a month in town, here’s a brief rundown of what I’m feeling. WHAT I LOVE:
1. I can walk from my apartment to the beach in five minutes.
2. The city center (seen here) really is gorgeous with its colorful colonial style buildings and perfectly preserved fortified walls surrounding it.
3. The bakery down the street from me smells like heaven and their bread is even better
4. Colombian soccer jerseys are super cute and the national team is doing well so far in the Copa America tournament!
5. Living here is the first time in my life that being black doesn’t make me a minority, and there’s something really liberating about that.
WHAT I DON’T LOVE:
1. I definitely prefer the heat over the cold, but it is soooo hot here, and I sweat easily, so it’s not a very pretty combo sometimes.
2. The mosquitoes are out to get me this summer and my legs look I’m recovering from chicken pox.
3. The streets in my neighborhood don’t have signs, so it’s been tough figuring out how to navigate the area. The people here just know the street names by heart, but I’m still learning.
4. My family and friends aren’t here, but they better come visit! For now, my plan is to stay in Cartagena until the end of July, and then it’s off to Europe for two months! I’ll be back here after my European escapades, though, and as I spend more time in Colombia, I’m sure I’ll find more things I love and other things not so much, but that’s the nature of every place you go. Nothing is perfect. What do you love/hate about the town or city where you live?!
Why do you go to the hairdresser or barber? Why do you use a nail tech? Why do you call a plumber or take your car to the auto shop? It’s because you trust another person’s skills, experience, and expertise at completing a task over your own. You pay for a quality product.

Cozumel is located on the Yucatan peninsula, and contains the world's second largest barrier reef system, making it a haven and must-see site for scuba divers world around! It's rumored that Jacques Cousteau filmed a documentary there highlighting the reef system and also putting Cozumel on the map as the ultimate dive destination.

As soon as we stepped into our own personal oasis in Rio, we were greeted by a light hue of blue peeking through our curtains. I gasped when the bellman yanked the curtains back, revealing a majestic ocean view bordered by unforgettable mountains. No one had ever mentioned how beautiful Rio was. I had heard about the danger more times than I could count (which I didn’t experience!), the mouthwatering food, and the captivating music. However, everyone who had shared his or her experience with me about Rio failed to mention the stunning view that would make me fall in love with the city. As you all know, I am not ashamed to admit I will travel for a view! I love coming into contact with landscapes that will literally take my breath away. So when I first took in the postcard worthy image of the famous Copacabana beach from my hotel’s room, I knew this was going to be a weekend to remember. If you’ve been following my Instagram stories, you caught highlights of our fun filled trip, but I wanted to provide a detailed post illustrating just how carefree it was as well. The last thing I want when I only have 4 days to enjoy a city is to stress about mundane details. I hope this guide gives insight to why Rio is perfect for a long weekend escape that is sure to relax and recharge. Link in bio ❤️
How many times has fear stopped you from achieving something? I’m fearful all the time. I was afraid to become a midwife and honestly the tremendous responsibility of the role still frightens me. But I answer the call everyday. I feared dressing out loud and drawing attention to myself. I felt that dark colors and plain clothes would make me appear just a bit smaller. But one day I decided to silence that fear, step into the world of color, and adorn the body I‘m blessed with. Traveling internationally was a scary thought. I had never known anyone to venture beyond the Caribbean. I figured that if I didn’t see anyone like me exploring the world, then maybe it wasn’t for me. I made it for me though, took that first step and never looked back. Did I suddenly stop feeling fear? Of course not! Fear is still very much a part of my daily experience, but it motivates me instead of paralyzing me. I do not focus on the doubt but imagine all the possibilities of stepping outside of my comfort zone. Today, I challenge you to contemplate one fear that’s been holding you back and decide to stare it in the face and do it anyway. Choose to live out loud and let your potential surprise you!
To be honest...sometimes when my loneliness kicks in...I just crave to jump on a plane and fly to another part of this world where I can indulge, explore and get lost in its unfamiliar yet spellbinding magic. It’s really the only thing I live for, strive for and set goals for in my life.
Lately I've come to realize how that's been a form of . And not necessarily healthy to my existence.
For our spirits have to learn to be alone as human beings. And that everything we are looking for in the outside world...is really .
Now I find tremendous peace and embrace my loneliness by closing my eyes and traveling within through my meditations.
Then jumping on a plane and traveling the world can simply be about living life and having experiences...bc that's really what I'm all about.
