Earlier this month, it was announced that Halle Bailey has been cast as Ariel in the upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. While many people celebrated the groundbreaking casting — Halle will be the first woman of color to portray the role on screen — there was some racist backlash as well. This week, Donald was asked about the controversy while promoting The Lion King and he gave some pretty sound advice. "I thought that was so special," he told E! News at the film's premiere. "We were just watching that film and I'm like, that's such a great story but I'm just like, I dunno, I just hope that she's like having fun and don't let anybody make you feel the opposite of how you want to feel. It's a very special role and you earned it, so I hope you're listening." We hope that Halle was listening, too. While the singer hasn't addressed the criticism directly, she did say she was feeling "really grateful right now" after the announcement. (: Gettyimages)
On Wednesday, Beyoncé once again surprised her BeyHive when she released "Spirit," the first song from her upcoming complimentary album, The Lion King: The Gift, due out July 19. Naturally, fans collectively lost their shit listening to Queen Bey deliver pristine vocals on what appears to be a gospel-influenced track. In the song, Bey sings about "a boy becoming a man," and "standing up to fight for your destiny." You know, all of the challenges Simba goes through in the movie. (: Gettyimages)

Our parents deserve our honor and respect for giving us life itself. Beyond this they almost always made countless sacrifices as they cared for and nurtured us through our infancy and childhood, provided us with the necessities of life, and nursed us through physical illnesses and the emotional stresses of growing up.

Cori “Coco” Gauff, the youngest ever player to qualify for Wimbledon beat the five-time champion in the first round, knocking Williams out of the tournament. Gauff, who previously called the Williams sisters her idols, is 24 years younger than Williams, and will go on to play Magdalena Rybarikova , who’s 15 years her senior in the second round.
Speaking about her win, Gauff said "I never thought this would happen. I'm literally living my dream right now. I'm really happy Wimbledon gave me the chance to play, I never thought I would get this far." (: Getty Images)
