I’ve loved seeing the beautiful art print cards @thepresserie has printed on our paper. Most of them are of notable places in Northern California, where I grew up, so they have a soft spot in my heart!! This one is of Squaw Valley in the Sierra Nevadas, very near to Lake Tahoe. We would vacation in this area every summer and skied at Squaw in the winters a few times too. Those mountains will always be one of the dearest places to my heart, probably most because they remind me of my dad. Lake Tahoe was his favorite place on this earth, and after he died we held an intimate memorial service on the shores of the Lake with the mountains surrounding us, tall and wise and ancient. High places like that are comforting to me, and were especially in those grieving days. They feel like home while at the same time reminding me that I am very small and not in control, and that my days are watched over by One bigger than me. I need to know that sometimes. . I read your comments and then procrastinate about responding because I want to make a really heartfelt, connection-building response that would probably turn into an essay so I wait for when I have time to do that and...yeah. So glad our dusty blue envelopes made it into this stunning suite from @plumeandfete! An envelope is such a great way to add a pop of color to a set. We haven’t made much blue paper lately but have plans to next week. Did you know that we make an organic indigo vat for every batch of blue paper we make? @botanicalcolors has a great tutorial on their blog for how to make an indigo vat without a bunch of toxic stuff. I was really intimidated by indigo at first but it’s not as hard to use as it sounds, and it’s a very satisfying feeling to know you walked every step through the process. The most amazing part to me? A good indigo vat comes out with the liquid green and a coppery sheen on the top. Once you add it to fiber (in our case, paper pulp), the fiber is first green and then morphs into blue as the air touches it. Almost every time I add indigo to a barrel of pulp, I make everyone in the studio stop what they’re doing (sorry guys! ) and come watch because it’s just so amazing to me.
