THE HAPPENING * * * _____________________________________________ I rarely post something at the current time typically I have spent at least a few days, weeks to a month, or months with an image before I share it. But I have invested a lot of time and effort to this set of images (more to come later). I suspect I have a few others in this series thats probably actually better for this format but with that said I like golden hour. So I drove 430 miles one way specifically for this image. I wanted to share it before this scene is common place. This is a single image I could not focus stack. I sat here for 4 hours prior to sunset to claim my spot as there really is only enough space for one person to get this composition. I used a 2 stop graduated filter on the sky to reduce brightness. The image was captured last night on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I hope you like it! I’ll add these to my website when I get done with the rest. You should see the ones with the mixed flowers! **Backpacking with dogs post, long read** ‍♂️ . Lots of basic ideas for captions roaming around my noggin for this pic...basic captions like “Find yourself someone who looks at you the way Winnie looks at me” or a Winnie-the-Pooh quote like “One thing you should know, no matter where I go, we'll always be together." That’s actually a Christopher Robin quote, but whatever; but what if instead we broke everything down to talk about pet companionship and the trust and confidence building that will naturally exude from an unlikely and experimental relationship? . My sister @ashthehiker recently adopted the sweetest little pittie named Caesar and has been bringing him out on short little hikes, growing him into a future hiking companion. Some of the obstacles and, we’ll say “opportunities” that she’s encountered along the way have reminded me a lot of what I encountered with Winnie when we first started venturing off into the back country together, . Now I will say this, my sister (trail name Skip) is a very accomplished hiker and outdoor enthusiast. She set out on a northbound thru hike of the Appalachian Trail well before I even knew what the AT was, is a winter time peak bagger of the NH48, Catskill38, and ADK46 and to top it all off is also an accomplished rock climber. I only hope to be half the badass she is sometime within my short time on this planet. To sum it up, she’s way ahead of mine and Winnie’s learning curve just a few years ago. . As many of you know, when me and Winnie started out it was an absolute trail wreck. I was drinking myself to death over a breakup, I started out with a women’s pack that was way too small for me, and Winnie had no trail manners whatsoever. She’d chase deer forever, poop on trail, and I was so busy lugging around sweatshirts and extra flashlights that I didn’t know if I was coming or going. . Over time we both calmed down and that’s where the training really began to kick in. Over time the trust, the confidence building, the relationship strengthening, all of it kicked in. Winnie stopped chasing wildlife and pooping on trail and my load slowly lightened as I stopped packing so many of my fears. Continued in the comments
