G20 Cockpit - 330i M Sport has superb seating position, pretty electric seats let you lock in on that zero gravity posture. Then there's the thicc masculine M Sport steering which may be girthy to some but a godsend for many. The wheel feels good and grippy in the hands, very responsive, sharp and precise. Steering adjustability is second to none, with more than enough rake and reach to mimic race car type position. Also lets you swell the seat's side bolsters to clamp your torso like a bucket and is applicable on both front pairs. Signature BMW driver's cockpit feels well thought off, with everything you need intuitively positioned. New shift console is nice to look at, houses the start button which is a bliss, just a bit small. iDrive radial knob feels great in the palm, has weighty spin that clicks like a ticking clock. Addictive to use and works even better than expected. Most of the time though, you'll be using the new, glorious touchscreen display. Shift knob still an eye candy after 2nd encounter. Ever so often it lures you in through the smoked top shell to wonder what's beneath. But then every time, you realise it's just a pretty plastic blob. Nevertheless, the shift by wire knob feels nice in the palm, is clicky, has short travel and good resistance. Ambiance wise, a big jump from F30 gen in luxury, also more up market. It has metal trims, silver accents, new angular motifs and is generally more padded and cosy. Aesthetically, it is minimalist, focused, still monochrome in overall theme, but well liven up by new toys, ambient lighting, crisp touchscreen display and digital instrument cluster. Overall weightlessness of the car can be felt in the cockpit as well, it is efficient even in its interior design, practical, ergonomic, easy to use, very livable with. You won't find Merc type luxury here, the G20 is a lot more basic when compared. Nevertheless, the new 3 feels very well put together, emit no creaks and NVH is very well damped. The front acoustic windscreen cuts wind noise and works better at high speed, although you can barely hear the difference but it is there somehow. G20 Power - While it is a bit hyper on the ride side, power and pace remain relatively polite. The delivery of that 258hp / 400nm feels, again very G30 530i like, but being younger and sportier, the 330i takes off from zero, to hundred more effortlessly at 5.8 secs, in a distinct, progressive manner. Being propelled by the proven BMW B48 2L twin scroll turbo 4 cylinder, there's loads of power at any given time. Responsive too. The 4 banger is very linear though, so linear that at times it feels like there's an invisible power cap when gunning up the Genting straights at full throttle. Then you realise it is in fact hauling, but only because it prefers to spread its juice evenly all throughout the rev range. Driving on the Karak Highway, it will comfortably hover at 180km/h in tranquility, no matter the inclination. Paddle shifters are a given in a performance sedan, like the 330i. Just don't expect anything fancy or metal. Steptronic ZF 8 speed transmission is smooth, peaceful, has nice longish ratios, but feels cold and unemotional like any recent BMW. This being the sportier 3, can really do with manlier shifts. But it gets it done and is obedient when called upon, just too well mannered. Even in Sport mode at full attack, it doesn't do pops or bangs, only prefers efficiency over excitement. A stark contrast to the eagerness of its chassis.
