BOOK REVIEW . Thank you so much to my friends over at @riverheadbooks for gifting me a copy of CITY OF GIRLS by Elizabeth Gilbert. . Let me start my review by saying CITY OF GIRLS is a perfect, summer, beach read that will lure you in from the very first page. I finished this book within a 24 hour period because the narrators voice was so compelling, and I wanted to know what happened next. . CITY OF GIRLS is a coming of age story of Vivian, the narrator, who is now 89, but she is reflecting on her life in response to a letter she received from a woman named Angela. Personally I didn’t care who this Angela person was, albeit we discover who she is near the end - but the authors writing made me feel like Vivian was talking directly to me. . Vivian starts recalling her life at age 19 when she drops out of college, and her family sends her to NYC in the 1940’s to live with her eccentric aunt Peg who is the owner of a theater there - the Lilly Playhouse. Vivian’s character is energetic, confident, sassy, fun, and carefree - She really puts herself out there. She welcomed every and any experience, and when life gave her some humble pie - she ate it. Her “life is short, and I’m in charge of my own life” attitude for a woman of that time was remarkable, and refreshing! . Vivian’s story was filled with late-night outs, sexual explorations, exploitations, and promiscuity. This was then followed up with war, her maturation, working, becoming an adult, and finding her version of family, and love. . I loved ALL the characters! They were all filled with life, all extremely different from each other, all flawed, and all very human. Not including Vivian, I loved Olive and I especially loved Marjorie! . CITY OF GIRLS was a wonderfully written novel with amazing and interesting characters, vivid descriptions, a lot of energy, wit and wisdom. I know some people might think promiscuity is a step backward for women, but my question to you is, is it a step backward for men and non binary individuals too? . Have you read CITY OF GIRLS? ✨LIFE + BOOK UPDATE!✨ . Happy Monday Everyone I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and you’re about to kick start an amazing / productive week ahead! I’ve been MIA these past few days because I have been busy working on a labor of love called BIBLIOFINDER @bibliofinder - I know some of you have received messages about this, but I know I haven’t been able to reach everyone because Instagram limits the number of messages I can send. . Anhoooo BIBLIOFINDER @bibliofinder is a website, and soon to be app where you can find independent bookstores across the world. Essentially it’s an online directory - think Yelp but it’s exclusive to independent bookstores only. . My part in all of this is a lot lol BUT I’m also the host of the podcast Biblio Happy Hour @bibliohappyhour where we talk to the owners/ managers of these bookstores and give them a platform to share their stories. This week alone I have seven interviews. Yup, I’m officially an introvert trying to be extroverted. It’s challenging but it’s for a worthy cause! . Zupełnie zmieniłam zdanie na temat tej książki. Z początku jej koncept wydawał mi się ciekawy, jednak jak dostałam ją w swoje ręce to zaczęłam się zastanawiać nad sensem jej posiadania. Ma to być biblia dla wszystkich hipochondryków, którzy nie są pewni z jakimi objawami zgłaszać się do lekarza, a jakie po prostu obserwować i przeczekać. Wiadomym jest, że w obecnych czasach, kiedy tylko coś zaczyna się dziać z naszym ciałem, od razu sięgamy do internetu. Przeszukujemy fora, zadajemy pytania, szukamy osób, które miały podobne syndromy. Czy jest sens zastępować źródło w postaci wyszukiwarki Google, na książkę? Jak się okazało, ten tytuł to nie tylko ooooogrom medycznej wiedzy, ale też kupa śmiechu i faktycznie rzeczowe informacje. Jeśli polubiliście humor z „Będzie bolało” to myślę, że ta książka również Was rozbawi Ciekawa pozycja dla tych, którzy chcą dowiedzieć się ciut więcej o własnym ciele i posiąść wiedzę, która pozwoli im mniej się denerwować w sytuacjach „medycznie wątpliwych” Nie jest to pozycja, którą każdy musi u siebie mieć, ale z pewnością jest to kolejna książka @insignis_media, która jest fajną ciekawostką i unikalnym pomysłem na prezent dla osoby, która według Was, trochę zbyt często wyolbrzymia tematy związane ze swoim zdrowiem . What are some fun things you plan to do this summer? The first thing we did was sign up for the summer reading program with our local library and then fill in a calendar with all the things we want to do so we can fit it all in! Today I’ve partnered with @disneybooks (#ad) to talk about our summer reading goals using this fun #SerafinaSeries summer reading log printable. (You can get it for free with the link in my stories and bio) . For this community, it’s pretty normal to have monthly reading goals— but now that I have a new reader we’ve been trying to come up with some fun ways to keep up enthusiasm while school is out. My daughter has had a reading log for years that we filled out as a family, but this is her first summer with her own. My girl loves to watch TV and we normally do our family reading together in the evening, so this summer she’s got to read in the day time on her own (or to me) to earn TV time. Between her reading log and the fun activities that the library has planned all summer, I’m hoping she’ll have some joyful reading experiences. . We have been reading the Serafina series together to prepare for the new book (Serafina and the Seven Stars) that comes out in July. We did book one via audio from the library while we were in the car or coloring, and have started book two by reading aloud a few chapters at bed time. I’m not sure if we’ll finish the full series together by the end of summer, but we definitely will some time before the year is up.
