Look at how pretty this lemon Kindle sleeve from @bookshields is!I love how bright and happy it looks. Fruits like lemons, bananas and mangoes have become relevant to the #romanceclass community because of certain books so we're always interested in prints like these. This is my first Kindle sleeve from Book Shields but it probably won't be my last because I'm already thinking about ordering a banana print sleeve. The quality is really good and it's a snug fit for my Kindle Paperwhite. Highly recommend this store if you want to buy from a seller based in the Philippines, very accommodating with great customer service. I also ordered some sleeves from @pages.remembered that will arrive in a couple of weeks' time. I've been curious about Polaris Rising by Jessie Mihalik ever since I saw it recommended over at Ilona Andrews' blog, but it hasn't been released yet and I'm not sure if I want to pre-order it at a 9.99usd price point. So I decided to try The Queen's Gambit instead, since it's already available. My friend @specficromantic enjoyed reading it so I was hoping I would as well.⁣ ⁣ I found The Queen's Gambit to be an overall fun sci-fi read, with interesting worldbuilding peppered with some political intrigue. It starts off with the main characters in a sticky situation and the fast pace doesn't let up until the end. I liked the two main characters and enjoyed reading about them. This would have qualified as a good read except for the fact that I felt that it ends abruptly, not quite a cliffhanger but it still feels incomplete with several plot threads left hanging. I realize that this must be the first in the series but I would have liked to have been warned that the story is not quite finished prior to diving into this. I liked the writing but still not sure whether I'd be willing to purchase Polaris Rising or wait for either a Kindle deal or more reviews from trusted friends to turn up.⁣ ⁣ Have you read The Queen's Gambit or Polaris Rising? How do you usually interact with fellow bookstagrammers? For the ones I follow, I frequently like and comment on their posts and even their stories. But for the ones I don't follow, I browse through some of the hashtags I use and go on a liking spree on each bookstagrammer's feed, and comment on posts where I feel like I have something I can contribute. But lately I'm being flagged by Instagram because apparently I use the like button too fast, and have been temporarily disabled from using it from time to time. So I'm thinking maybe I should change that particular strategy. While I do not "share for share" nor "follow for follow", I do try to return likes and comments whenever I could to show that I'm grateful for receiving them. What are tips that you'd like to share with fellow bookstagrammers that you think would be helpful? Mine would be first and foremost, keep bookstagramming without pressure. Keeping things stress-free and not worrying about details is what keeps bookstagram fun. Other than that, I'd say engagement is key. I'm on bookstagram because I want to connect with fellow book lovers and find other readers who share my tastes in books. So I do my best to engage as much as I can. I don't auto-follow (which means I wouldn't follow then unfollow like some other people do) but I check the hashtags that I use and go on a liking spree to show appreciation, comment on posts even if I don't follow the account, as well as return likes and comments whenever I can. I reply to every comment I receive on my posts. I also do shout outs in my stories when there's a post that I want to highlight. Except for reviews, I usually ask questions in my posts to make it easier for other people to respond. What about you, do you think interacting with fellow bookstagrammers is important? My first read in 2019 is Ember by Bettie Sharpe, a Cinderella retelling that has been recommended to me on romance Twitter. I was in the mood for a fairy tale retelling and this was just 0.99usd so I went ahead and picked it up. The prince in this book has been charmed (or in other people's eyes, cursed) by a witch when he was a baby. Every man must respect him and every woman must desire him. All it takes is one look and everyone succumbs to this curse. Ember refuses to be enthralled by the prince so she becomes a witch and turns to the dark arts in order to resist the curse. This was a short and enjoyable read, which was also surprisingly steamy. It was well-paced with interesting characters. Also refreshing to read a Cinderella retelling where the main character gets along with her stepmother and stepsisters. Plus it was fun to read about a Cinderella who has magical powers.
