‍☠️ Blanton’s Gold Edition - Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey - 51.5% ABV () Blanton’s Gold is the same as the Original but with less Kentucky limestone water added. It will be difficult to return to the lower proof now that I’ve gone Gold. . NOSE: So much leather, tobacco, cherry, caramel, vanilla, and oak. I take deep breaths and I am calmed. . PALATE: So much orange rind, chocolate, and cinnamon. I swish a long time and oak and leather become prominent with an intense, ever-growing tingling. . FINISH: A healing of cherries came forth that were not really noticeable in the original. The finish is more intense and longer lasting. . CONCLUSION: By the time this Gold came back to America (where it is not sold), it was twice the price of the Original. And, I’ll gladly pay the price like so many of my fellow Americans. Good thing the Europeans are not as enamored so that we Americans can repatriate the golden deliciousness. . Cheers! . Garrison Brothers Balmorhea – Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey – 57.5 % ABV How does one say no to a whiskey that comes with its own medal? It’s the “American Micro Whisky of the Year 2019” according to Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible. Okay, that may be one reason to say no, because Mr. Murray has had some controversial picks as of late. That said, I quite enjoyed the 2018 Balmorhea release where there was so little available it came only in half-size bottles. In fact, it has been my most favored Garrison Brothers. So, despite the medal, I bought a new bottle. . I am thankful for the #whiskyfabric. A fellow drammer knew, from my past posts, that I quite enjoyed Balmorhea. Tahwahkaro - Four Grain Bourbon Whiskey - 48% ABV The first spirit from a new, grain-to-glass distillery located within spittin’ distance of my home. Some of my family gave this a solid thumbs up, some of my family gave this a solid thumbs down, and, for some of us, one wonders where our thumbs are at... My thumb is in the barrel—Little Jack Horner stuck his thumb in the pie (the barrel shown formerly held Jack Daniel the whisky and not Jack Horner the nursery rhyme—it’s all Jack don’t you know—oh wait, that’s a 90’s computer game—where was I). . NOSE: Orange rind, cinnamon, cereal, black tea, tobacco, sawdust, and youth. . PALATE: Slightly sweet, mini-cinnamon red-hots, blood oranges, touch of vanilla and pleasant oak. . FINISH: Touch of cinnamon, dark chocolate, tobacco and calm, lingering tingling. . CONCLUSION: This Batch 1 would be more to my preferences with more rest in the barrel. I understand this bourbon coming to market young because these folks have been working their butts off for three years with no income. It’s tough to start a new distillery when you don’t source someone else’s whiskey to get early income. They have my support, and I look forward to their first Straight Bourbon. .
