That’s a Fourth of July win for the Yankees, as they beat the Rays by a score of 8-4. A five-run 10th inning put the Yankees on top, backing up Chapman’s unusual blown save. Happ put together a strong performance tonight in the win, and homers for Encarnacion and Sanchez led the offense.

Mike Tauchman got the scoring started with an RBI single in the third inning, tying the game at one. Aaron Hicks gives the Yankees the lead in the same inning, ripping a double down the first base line to bring home Tauchman. Edwin Encarnacion adds some cushion to the Yankees’ lead in the seventh frame, crushing his 25th homer of the year for a solo shot, putting the Yanks up 3-1. After Chapman allowed the Rays to tie the game at 3, DJ LeMahieu gets up in a situation he loves and doesn’t disappoint. With the bases loaded and no one out, LeMahieu knocks a base hit to left field to score two runs, putting the Yankees up 5-3. The damage didn’t end there though. Gary Sanchez absolutely crushed a three-run homer that went 461 feet, capping off a five-run inning.

J.A. Happ pitched fantastic tonight, only letting up one run on three hits in 5.1 solid innings. Adam Ottavino came on in relief and recorded the final two outs of the sixth frame, before handing the ball off to Tommy Kahnle. Kahnle tossed a 1-2-3 seventh inning, and Zack Britton put together a scoreless eighth. Aroldis Chapman allowed two runs in the ninth inning, blowing the save and forcing extras. Luis Cessa got the first two outs of the inning and allowed a run. David Hale came in and recorded the final out of the tenth, securing win number 56.
