Distichium inclinatum Ditrichaceae Bryophyta This has many interesting features! The first is its twisted seta (the long stalk the subtends the capsule), that untwists in moist conditions/ when water is added. The plant itself is also uniquely flattened into 1 plane, referred to as distichous. The leaves are wispy and long, and it forms dense populations, so this distichous trait is not always obviously at first glance. There are two species we see often in Alberta. This one, with curved or inclined capsules, and one with erect capsules( D. capillaceum), but they both have this lovely flattened growth form.
