I WILL NOT BEND TO BLEND... I’ve recently put myself out there in my professional life a lot more than ever before, and I’ve faced all the usual imposter syndrome-inducing self-limiting thoughts that can go with that experience... I tackle those thoughts by approaching them like a conversation rather than a monologue. That one voice in my head doesn’t get to call all the shots, because I have the power to counteract it with another kinder, more positive voice. Usually my self-doubts have something to do with feeling different from other leaders in my industry, so one of the commands I give myself when I feel like an outsider is the above . . I WILL NOT BEND TO BLEND. My point of difference is my USP, my superpower, my legacy. It doesn’t serve me to bend my own rules, nor to blend where I don’t naturally blend, nor to overlook my strengths because I’m so focused on my differences. There’s a lot of talk in the wellness world about tools like affirmations and gratitude practices. There is value in these things, but sometimes they feel abstract if we don’t connect them to a physical action. Enter the ‘MOVING MANTRA’... . If there is a feeling, a skill or a goal you want to positively frame in your life, recite your mantra or visualise attaining that feeling or goal as you train. For me, this is the ultimate connection of mind and body. Run reps of your thoughts the same way you perform reps of an exercise. Repetitive thoughts have the power to reprogramme our mind’s inclination towards positive thinking (Google current buzzword neuroplasticity), and associating positive thoughts with movement further reinforces the pleasure we get from exercise - win, win. So if you notice any post-bank-hol negativity slipping in, MOVE YOUR MANTRA to change your perspective, and make sure those thought repetitions help you to connect with and celebrate your point of difference. * Pictured feeling joyful and confident after moving my mantra earlier this morning. Also felt inspired by a notable someone joining the strong mum squad (hey there Meghan #royalbaby ‍♀️) and created a leg, core & posture tri-set you can do mid-buggy walk or run using only a theraband.
