Lately, I’ve been working with some clients who are younger, teen girls and some right out of college,and we are directly taking aim at their low self-esteem. . Together we make a list of all the negative statements they say to themselves throughout situations in their day. Be it around their appearance, with their peers, academically, athletically, their families, etc. We write all the mental phrases down and we say them out loud so they can hear the climate they’re marinating in, which is in turn creating a negative reality, and they deeply want that to change. They’re surprised at the barrage they’re under from the critic that lives within. These are kind-hearted young women, generous of spirit to others around them, and supportive friends. And they instantly recognize they wouldn’t dare speak to anyone else in this appalling manner. . Then we make a list of the opposite phrases - the counteractive affirmations that resonate for them and they can live with saying to themselves on a daily basis. . It’s challenging recognizing all the beauty of who we are, and the disconnect starts so young. These young girls in particular are from loving, supportive families. And yet, they still have this inner work of attempting to see themselves undistorted. By shifting their narrative, and speaking to themselves lovingly and kindly throughout the day, they are making better decisions, moving out of perfectionism, noticing when they contract around their limitations, and owning who they are in their fullness. . This is how we grow our self worth. And it often has to be learned, this positive self-talk, along with letting go of ideas we carry about ourselves that don’t serve us anymore. So we can truly be content and experience deep fulfillment. . It’s never too early or too late to turn things around and recognize that our relationship to ourselves is the most important one there is. It begins by noticing the company we keep: We are our own greatest friend or foe. See if making your own list helps and then say those positive statements to yourself every morning after your meditation ‍♀️ when the heart and mind are receptive. It’s time.

Do you find yourself struggling with your self-confidence? It’s as if there’s this whole other side of you that keeps you confined within this shell. Not allowing for your true self to come out because the voice keeps saying statements that go a little something like... _ “You’re too scared.” “You’re no good at...” ”You are not capable of...” ”You aren’t…” “You won’t ever be able to…” _ That’s just to name a few. The way you feel about yourself and how you view your own abilities trickles into other terms such as self-respect, self esteem and self love. _ ➡️They all relate with one another! If one is out of balance, most likely the others are out of balance too. _ ➡️So the question becomes, how does this happen. In most cases, lacking in one of these areas usually stems from years of sabotage, whether it be from ourselves or from someone else. _ ‍♀️I know for me personally it came from the relationships I had with family members, past intimate relationships and childhood traumas. I wasn’t born with a lack of self confidence or lack of love for myself. It had been built up over the years. _ ➡️So now the next question becomes, how do you build up it back up? _ For starters _ 1️⃣Asking is this true. If you begin to have negative feelings about yourself or if someone says something about you, ask yourself “ Is this true?” . 2️⃣Admire one good thing about yourself everyday that makes you YOU. 3️⃣Start to tune into the voice within. The voice that tells you when something doesn’t feel right or tries to tell you to walk away from people or things that are unhealthy. 4️⃣Walk away from people, things and situations that are unhealthy! 5️⃣Reflect back and remember the things that made you happy as a child or young teen. Go do those things! The self-confidence building part of the Mindful Healing Method by far has been one of my favorite parts of the program.
