As spring approaches and the weather turns, the warmth of the sun awakens us from the doldrums of winter, and we’re getting excited for what’s to come. It’s been all too easy to get bogged down by the endlessly rainy days that marked this winter, the day-to-day realities of production, marketing, managing orders and steering this business into the direction we want to head, that we sometimes forget why we do what we do. For the past year, @loyal.bespoke has been an outlet of creativity for us, a place to reconnect with our desire to learn; to become a beginner again; a place to stretch and hone our skills, methods and designs outside the boundaries and style we’ve set for our main business, and is the result of hours of sharing and gaining knowledge from a handful of other generous leatherworkers. It’s been a way for us to connect with the community that also enjoys this craft, and has been how I spend most Saturdays this past winter- especially the cold and rainy ones. If there’s one thing we’ve learned through making products and growing as people, it’s that at the end of the day, a product is just a product, and a job is just a job, but it’s the people and camaraderie that surround that thing that you love is what really matters. Community can form around just about anything. For us, it’s leatherwork and design. For you it may be something different, but whatever you do, focus on the people, the friendships, and joy of connection, and the rest will follow. I’m quite proud of this bag I just finished, but I wouldn’t have been able to do it without a ton of help from the community we call home. Works great for people with flat feet or high arches or for those with a wider forefront of the foot when compared to their heel.
