Two weeks ago Wildcare Eastern Sierra took in this Golden Eagle. Extremely emaciated, and laying down most of the time, we weren’t sure if he would make it. We immediately gave him subcutaneous fluids to hydrate him and began a tubing regimen to get him essential nutrients. He was also started on Vitamin K in case rodenticide poisoning was involved. Two weeks later and this eagle is eating solid food, and has moved to a larger cage allowing him to stretch his wings! ‪Our #seaottersavvy contribution to #CephalopodWeek with apologies to Doryteuthis opalescens, the CA market squid. ‬As demonstrated by this mom and her pup, sea otters will occasionally prey on squid, but octopuses are more commonly a part of their diet. Both are likely encountered and caught opportunistically while foraging for other prey.
