Adult California kingsnake (Lampropeltis getula Californiae) found stretched along the edge of a boulder. All I was were the bands moving along the edge before i grabbed it. A major portion of California kingsnake diet, in contrast to the San Diego gopher snake which I also caught today (previous post), consists of reptiles. They are known for eating other snakes, including venomous ones, hence the name “kingsnake”. They are opportunistic feeders however, and will also eat rodents, eggs, and birds.
