A few weeks ago, while the leaves disappeared and the winds turned bitter and all the grasses dried out to a rattling whisper in the fields, Oliver grew very concerned for the beetles by the pond...He created a mini sign for “Beetle boats” to stick in the mud of the pond-shore, and nearby he arranged a few of these forest-nutshell “rowboats” (with a blueberry snack tucked inside so that the beetles wouldn’t get hungry while they enjoyed their last boating excursions before Winter). Conveniently it rained the following day, and when we returned a few days after, he was overjoyed to see that the boats had disappeared, which of course must have meant that they were utilized by some very grateful beetle friends ✨

Austin Wildlife Rescue hosted our first annual Caring for Critters Brunch on August 11, 2018. It was a huge success and we raised over $30,000 for our new wildlife rehabilitation facility set to open early next year!! A huge thank you to Austin Marriott South, Margaret Slovak for the music, Loretta Holland for the delicious wildlife-themed cookies, Stephanie and Henrietta the Barn Owl, and McCarthy Print! We also want to thank our Brunch Chairs Beverly and Kathy, plus our hard-working board and staff for making the event go off without a hitch! We are so grateful for donors and supporters like you for joining us for this event and supporting Austin Wildlife Rescue's mission!!
