Yesterday was a very important day! At the Massachusetts State House we commemorated the 104th anniversary of the #ArmenianGenocide. Now, why is it important, why Boston, why should we still do this?
1. The fact that Turkey still hasn’t recognized the Armenian Genocide due to the fear of full reparations which will amount to billions of dollars (like Germany), they refuse to accept it, and in turn they lobby USA due to having military bases in Turkey and also being #1 buyer of weapons and Apache helicopters . This is the reason why, 49 states in US have recognized the #genocide but US as a country as not yet.
2. As you can see Noubar Afeyan is giving a book to governor Charlie Baker titled “Armenian Legacy in America”. Armenians have had tremendous impact on development of US and a great influence on economy, culture, and infrastructure here in Boston. Boston became home for thousands of Armenians away from prosecution so this relationship with Boston, and local government is symbolic of peace, love, and unity.
3. As #MLK once said: “Injustice anywhere is threat to justice everywhere” - which means that the longer Turkey gets away with this behavior there will be more massacres and genocides because the perpetrators of violence see that Turkey did not get punished and it gives them a window of hope that they will get away with it also. This is a crime against humanity that needs to be resolved for the betterment of humanity to set a standard and send a message to the world of what kind of a society we want to create for our children.
Last but not least, much thanks to Michael Demirchian for spearheading this. You truly are a great leader in our community. I know how much work, effort, and mental commitment you put into this and I want people reading this to also feel appreciative of that! David Muradian you da man, as always - thank you! Sheriff Peter Koutoujian thanks for your leadership!
See you all on Wednesday, April 24th (7PM sharp) - at the Armenian Heritage Park on The Greenway for the Armenian Genocide Commemoration at the Park!
