While some people opt to not have their cuticles removed. You can see for yourself how bad it can be to not have your nails cleaned properly. The cuticle is indeed there to protect the nail but just like the rest of our body, we need to shed the dead cells and in the case of cuticles they don’t shed, we have to remove the excess dead skin (not the live skin or eponychium). Applying enhancements over dead skin like this will cause the product to lift and cause so many complications like bacteria or fungus or harsh chemical reactions and not to mention it doesn’t look good and excess cuticles stunts growth of your nails( although there are other factors) but the bottom line is don’t be scared to have your cuticles cleaned by a trained professional. And be sure to interview a nail tech before going to them to make sure you are receiving the utmost quality. Let’s talk about the “apex” and it’s function: long nails are fun and all but they must also be functional, strong, and have a strong stress point so they do not crack only a few days after you get them done. Achieving the perfect apex in harmony with straight sidewalls that don’t curve over ( not too much, not too little apex ) is truly a challenge but it should be priority when doing longer lengths. The apex is usually built while applying acrylic and perfected during shaping and the sidewalls can easily be destroyed while filing causing problems down the line. The apex should be located in “zone 1” not 2 or 3. And once the nails grow that is why a “rebalance” is necessary. I offer classes to help you understand and perfect the smallest of details that mark the difference between nails and QUALITY nails.
