Gosh, I love these girls.Who knew adding a flock of chickens would change my life? You know what else is life changing? Time away with just my hubby!!! We took a whirlwind trip this weekend. Watch my stories to see what we are up to. (I’ll give you a little hint: think Antiques & Roadshow)
I hope you all are having as much fun as I am this weekend! .

Good morning! I'm feeling energized this morning and have been staring at our current garden shed and imaging all the ways we are going to turn it into the chicken coop of my dreams! And I'm loving this inspired design from one of my favourite accounts @thelovelycottage. I mean, this is serious chicken coop goals My 20-year-old self would have just cringed at that sentence, but yes I now have chicken coop dreams and I'm proud to admit it!

The chicken swing is easily our flock’s favorite feature of the coop. When we first expanded the chicken run, we wanted to provide the chickens with something to jump up on when they are cooped up. Our original chicken swing was made out of a half of a wooden pallet that we attached to the cross beams of the run with eye hooks and cables. The chickens used the swing so much that two of the boards snapped #fatties, so we constructed a new swing out of more durable scrap wood that we had left over from random projects. Super easy, and the chickens love it!

Our beautiful farm fresh, free range, pastured raised, delicious, rainbow eggs The two turkeys in the picture are Harold and Lillian, who I actually rehomed a few weeks ago. Harold was becoming aggressive towards us and towards the chickens. So he’s now living his life off at a different farm. We might try to raise a turkey tom one more time. If we do, a broody hen will raise him. We think because we hand raised Harold and Wallace, they didn’t fear/respect us, so they became aggressive and tried to dominate us. Hopefully this will work and we will be able to have a turkey tom on the farm, because we do enjoy it!!

This guy is one of the first chicks we raised. We thought he was going to be a she and named her Wanda. But then Wanda started to crow. So Wanda became Wendell. I’m sure there’s many of you that have had to do a name change here or there.

Do you plan your garden out or just wing it? After I kinda planned out the garden for this year I realized I didn’t have room for cucumbers The peas are slow going so I think I’m going to pop some cucumber seeds in next to them and just see which takes off first. The front empty bed will soon have squash and zucchini in it, and I’m going to cover it to keep the vine borer moth away. Just doing a little bit here and there, and eating lots of kale too.
