“Don’t despise the days of small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see it.” Zechariah‬ ‭4:10‬ It is often when we begin something new, when we’ve finally taken that first step of faith towards a goal, yet we haven’t arrived to any destination, that we are tempted to quit. It is just like the Israelites. God’s people had been in exile for 70 years, were able to go back to Jerusalem to rebuild the Temple and reestablish a place for God to dwell when they were attacked from every side. The local government oppressed them, they ran out of money, they all began fighting with each other, the mess was too much, the work was too hard, it wasn’t what they expected, they were dealing with their own sin, then they felt ashamed and disqualified, and Satan was having a party because he discouraged them enough that they quit. But God wasn’t done with them and He encouraged them that their little “doings”, even in the midst of opposition, mattered to Him. Even if it doesn’t look as “awesome” as you thought it would, even if it’s harder than you expected, don’t give up! These little steps are not a waste. The past few days, we have been getting some content for the launch of our ministry. But the past few weeks have been some of the roughest we can remember. Just like God’s people, as we are seeking to build a space for Him to be able to come to the people of this generation , there is opposition on every side. And every day is a battle not to throw in the towel. But this little reminder, that He sees our every labor that no one else sees, that it moves His heart that we keep going, and that He is stronger than the attacks against us, changes everything. Be encouraged today friends! You do not labor in vain and He rejoices in your unfinished little labor of love. His definition of “success” is not ours.
