'Joker' (2019). Here's another sneak peek. Now I'm no fan of superhero movies: not my thing I'm afraid, with all those special powers and that mystical universe stuff. However, the upcoming Joker origin movie from Warner's DC franchise looks like a blast. The trailer and advance promotional material suggests a take that's more like a cross between 'Taxi Driver' and 'The King of Comedy'. And who better to play this disaffected, tormented soul than Joaquin Phoenix. This looks like a role he was destined to play, further along down the road of insanity from last year's 'You Were Never Really Here' or his character in 'The Master' from 2012. .
.
Like Travis Bickle in 'Taxi Driver', Phoenix's Arthur Fleck is a sad loner pushed to the limits by a cruel world until he finally can take no more. Robert De Niro co-stars as a talk show host who contributes to Phoenix's downfall after a disastrous attempt to become a stand-up comedian. It's a marked change in direction for writer-director Todd Phillips, best-known for the Hangover movies and A Star Is Born. Release is scheduled for October.

Today's fashion post is Lizabeth Scott on the set of THE STRANGE LOVE OF MARTHA IVERS (1946). I actually think this is a quite modern outfit. The cropped top has been very trendy during the months in the past few years, and her top has a fun print featuring what looks like flags from around the world. Her high waisted pants keep the entire look classy, along with the heels. High waisted pants have made a huge comeback, especially pleated, plaid, and pinstripe pants. It is always fun to see how fashion repeats itself! -

When Gene met Oleg Cassini at a dinner party at Constance Moore's home: "I thought he was the most dangerous-looking character I had ever seen. Not handsome, but dangerous in a seductive way. Thin-lipped, languid, with wavy hair and a mustache. Perhaps if I had never gone to school in Switzerland I would not have found Oleg as interesting as I did. He represented all the things that were different and glamorous and continental. We spoke French to each other. He had a beautiful speaking voice (...). A few days after, Oleg called and asked me for a date New Year's Eve. I had made other plans, but I let him talk into breaking them. Before the night had ended we ran into my other date, who was surprised to find me not so deathly ill after all. My embarrassment was only temporary. I was intrigued with Oleg and had a hunch we were ringing in more than just the New Year, 1941." (From Self-portrait, 1979)
