So I have had a few questions about my process and I am needing to make orbs so I am doing a two part video. This first one is half the process. The sections are 15 pounds each and I throw them to 15 inches at the center of the wall. That is the middle of the “v” groove on the bottom piece and at the center point of the top piece. I then torch the bottom piece from the bat up to about 2/3 of the height. I spend about 3 minutes doing this to warm the surface so it will dry faster than the top. I focus most of the heat towards the bottom 1/3 and this keeps the bottom from settling for the rest of the piece. After the bottom is torched the two pieces will turn till they are ready to attach. For these it was all day then wrapped in plastic for the night. They were ready first thing in the morning. This is where I get a lot of questions about how stiff they are when I put them together. It’s a feel we learn from failure and success and every potter is different. The rim should wiggle easily with some resistance and the bottom should wiggle with much effort.
