This beauty is a very rare performance from “Fantastico 6”, an Italian variety show broadcast by Rai 1 on 12 October 1985✊ It was aired from one of Abbey Road Studios. Even though it’s another lip-synch performance, this is one of the only two we have for “Cloudbusting”, the magnificent second single from “HOL”. That alone would suffice to make it precious, but she gave a brief, sweet interview too, AND after that she performed RUTH Unthinkable promotional activities from her part nowadays, but that’s OK too, isn’t it? Kate on two absolute gems, “Cloudbusting” and “And Dream of Sheep” “(Cloudbusting) that did all fall apart over a period of about ten bars. And everything just started falling apart, 'cause it didn't end properly, and, you know, the drummer would stop and then the strings would just sorta start wiggling around and talking. And I felt it needed an ending, and I didn't really know what to do. And then I thought maybe decoy tactics were the way, and we covered the whole thing over with the sound of a steam engine slowing down so that you had the sense of the journey coming to an end. And it worked, it covered up all the falling apart and actually made it sound very complete in a way. And we had terrible trouble getting a sound effect of steam train so we actually made up the sound effect out of various sounds, and Del was the steam. [Laughs] And we got a whistle on the Fairlight for the "poo poop." “I started off writing, I think, "Running Up That Hill", "Hounds of Love", and then I think probably "Dream of Sheep." And once I wrote that, that was it, that was the beginning of what then became the concept. And really, for me, from the beginning, The Ninth Wave was a film, that's how I thought of it. It's the idea of this person being in the water, how they've got there, we don't know. But the idea is that they've been on a ship and they've been washed over the side so they're alone in this water. And I find that horrific imagery, the thought of being completely alone in all this water. And they've got a life jacket with a little light so that if anyone should be traveling at night they'll see the light and know they're there. OK, here it is what is happening with the new beauty from our Lady G As you can see, it’s not even out there but on Ebay the prices are flying high already “Cloudbusting”, Limited edition • 4-track 12” • Picture Disc • Exclusive to specific retailers. Tracklisting: 1 Side One: Cloudbusting 12” Organon Mix 2 Under the Ivy 3 Side Two: Rocket Man 4 Warm and Soothing For the non-collectors among us, “Under The Ivy” was “Running Up That Hill” B side (1985) and “Warm And Soothing” was the B side of “December Will Be Magic Again” (1980). All four songs are the 2018 remasters from ”The Other Sides” 4CD compilation. Date of release: 24 May 2019. So far so good, right? Well, yes and no... i’m waiting for Kate to officially confirm this, but it seems that only a handful of retailers will have the exclusive in a few Countries. It looks like in UK it’ll be HMV and FOPP and they’re already advising to pre-order it in-store. FOPP latest tweet said: “We have a very, very limited number of #Cloudbusting, #foppexclusive 12" picture disc, pre-order your copy in-store now.” HMVBirmingham on Instagram, a few days ago, posted “limited to 750”. I really hope they didn’t mean altogether... In the USA it is Rough Trade (www.roughtrade.com) In Germany it’s JPC (www.jpc.de) In France it’s FNAC (https://musique.fnac.com) When you’re on those sites, just tipe her name and pre-order your copy. There was this curious story a few years ago on The Belfast Telegraph: "Legend has it that singer and songwriter Kate Bush was on a stroll down Sandy Row in Belfast one summer afternoon 30 years ago when she heard the rhythmic thunder of a Lambeg drum and was drawn to investigate the source of the intoxicating sound. And there and then as she listened, intrigued, Kate placed an order for a Lambeg of her own. For the shop she had entered was Drumm Sounds, which is still there in the Row. And the singer placed her order with the then owner Jim Hewitt. Her instructions were that the drum was to have paintings of clouds around its rim. And, at a cost of £500, was to be called Cloudbuster — a nod to a song she’d just written. That Cloudbuster Lambeg features as a support instrument on Kate's 1985 album Hounds of Love. And the instrument was also played on the single Running Up That Hill... naturally, it also features on another single, Cloudbusting. But I wonder if anyone today can tell me the name of the drummer on the recordings. There is a suggestion he was a member of Kate's own band, but the popular belief is that the man with the sticks was a veteran member of the Co Antrim Lambeg Drumming Association who has since died." So, did you get your copy of the new 12” “Cloudbusting” Picture Disc? Today I received my first copy and it’s a thing of beauty, i tell you Don’t miss it because the price is gonna fly on this one (right now it’s around 23€/26€). It looks like the number of the pressed copies is very low. KateBush.com, her official site, speaks of “An extremely limited edition 12" vinyl picture disc...”, and it seems the press release to shops said only 750 copies. Very low number even if for HMV stores only. So much so that many stores are doing the one per person, to try to be fair. How amazing it is to write down all these titles and to find myself thinking that they’re all works of pure genius... that i’ve grown up with them always as faithful friends, never far away from my life and from my heart.
