Five rounds and reloading, very basic but also very good drill for training trigger control (stock HK trigger ) and speed reloads. Those were the firsts of the day and we were on 3.50 sec more or less.. After some warm up I went down easily under 3 sec.. I'd like to stibilize myself on 2.50 sec.. But maybe I will need some more training and consistency.. A little combat/ heart rate performance talk about the SNS summarized from a good study today that I utilize and will incorporate when training others...⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ When the SNS is activated the officers heart rate can escalate from an average of 60 to 80 BPM to over 200 BPM within seconds. The ideal HR for combat performance is 115 to 145 BPM. This is where the officer will be at their best, react the quickest & make clear decisions. When the SNS is activated auditory exclusion can occur. When the brain focuses on a threat the brain will tune in the sensory system that provides the the most relevant information given.. All other sensory inputs will be tuned out⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Survival performance and tactical implications of the SNS include tunnel vision, loss of near vision, inability to focus, & unable to close one eye ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ When the officer is involved with a stressful confrontation the ATP/PC system will activate- during the first 5-10 seconds the officer is at 100% of their energy output before exhaustion is reached. Glycolytic system engages around 30 to 50 seconds in the confrontation and the lactic acid system is depleted. The oxidative system can burn a long time depending on the officers cardio/ respiratory conditioning. Through a combination of proper training and of course nutrition, it’ll allow officers to perform for longer periods, fatiguing or reaching a point of exhaustion quickly..⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Studying energy loss during high stress explains why individuals lack performance, coordination and clear thinking. During training we run before we qualify to raise the heart rate to control our breathing while completing courses because when you are faced with a stressful encounter your HR will raise dramatically hence everything I just talked about lol ...When people can’t control their breathing or they’re fatigued quickly for example, they can’t stabilize a rifle or perform (it’ll move up and down causing an inability to focus on your target- combat tactical breathing is critical to learn. If it were up to me I would purposely have the person work up to 85-90 % HR effort and then complete the course to really learn to control their breathing. End of rant
