This book has me an emotional mess just thinking about it. The way it was written, the emotions it evoked, the rawness of the characters feelings, the love and the pain, all of it. It all just went together perfectly and made for a book I couldn’t not love. • This coming of age novel is a must read for all readers. It’s important and it’s necessary. It evaluates what it means to really find who you are and where you fit into this world when everything seems to be written in stone. I will not shy away from saying this; Yes, it is a queer book. Yes, it discusses the conflict between your sexual identity and religion. But depending on your perspective and how open-minded you are, there is a lot that EVERYONE can take away from this story. There is so much to learn and understand, if not about yourself, then about others and how they love. I can’t even put into words how meaningful this story was. How many people it could impact—in a good way. • I can’t believe I took so long to pick this book up, despite having had my eye on it for a long while now. What first drew me to it was the cover, because it is GORGEOUS. Probably one of my top favourites ever. But then I read the synopsis and I knew I’d love this story, because the plot fell right along the line of what I like to read. And then I actually finally read it, and I just can’t believe I waited so long. I’m glad I went with my gut and bought it at last. So glad. Because I can CONFIDENTLY say this is one of my top reads of this year. Если хотите прочитать эту книгу, потому что заявлено, что она для поклонников «Дерево растёт в Бруклине», то не сто́ит. ⠀ «Дом на Манго-стрит» (изд. @like_book) похожа на нашумевшее произведение Бетти Смит лишь тем, что о несправедливостях бедной жизни рассказывает юная девушка. ⠀ Книга состоит из мини-очерков или дневниковых записей главной героини Эсперанзы, которая всей семьёй наконец-то переехала в новый дом на Манго-стрит, с мечтами о том, что теперь их жизнь станет совсем другой. Конечно же, лучше прежнего. Некоторые моменты жизни Эсперанзы и её окружения действительно трогают, но многие лично мне были непонятны, я не увидела в них ничего особенного, хотя, возможно, не смогла заглянуть достаточно глубоко. ⠀ Если сравнить с тем же «Деревом», опять-таки тут совсем отсутствует сюжет и какое-то развитие. В «Дереве» оно было, хоть и медленное, но было. ⠀ Я видела много и положительных отзывов на эту книгу, так что думаю, что тут, может быть, дело во мне. Я ожидала такой же пронзительности, боли, переживаний, проблематики, как и у Бетти Смит, а на выходе получила совсем другую историю, которая мне не была близка. ⠀ Поэтому, если вы планируете читать «Дом», то просто абстрагируйтесь от того, что он может быть на что-то похож, ничего не ждите и тогда, вероятно, вам откроется многое из того, чего не увидела в ней я ⠀ ▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️ ⠀ ✍️ «Если кто-нибудь позабудет о том, зачем живет, то он быстро завянет, как тюльпаны в вазе.
