Just a few weeks in and what a change in the bird’s eye view of the kitchen garden. I loved it in the ‘before’ photo, with the structure of the raised beds around the greenhouse and the potential of all that bare soil...but I love it even more now. A fairy tale setting

This is the vista looking across the valley in which Trebah @trebahgarden nestles. The central green area is known as Chilean Combe, and the big deciduous tree at the top of it, and just left of centre here, is one of the garden’s Champion Trees, a Magnolia campbellii, which at 24m is the tallest of its kind in the UK. As I looked across at it today, I realised excitedly that I could make out a few pale pink dots, which I thought might be its first - and quite early - flowers. So we walked over to take a closer look, and yes, a handful of flowers are open, and there are plenty of pink buds. Swipe to see the best closer pics I could manage - the branches are a long way up! Last time I was here, on January 1st, there was no sign of pink petals. I donated blood for the first time today! The NHS staff commented on how unusually quick my donation time was (5 minutes and 10 seconds). It was at the Freemason's Hall (an art deco masterpiece in Covent Garden) so I had a cheeky snoop around the building after until I bumped a guided tour that was going on and was directed back downstairs.
