Time for a mini review! I finished reading Keep This to Yourself last night. It’s a gay YA murder mystery set in a small town by the sea. A year ago the so called catalog killer murdered 4 people, including the main character’s best friend. The killer was never caught and now new clues keep turning up... I thoroughly enjoyed every page. It’s was filled with suspense, the twist(s) were unexpected & the finale was perfectly dramatic. I think the characters & the romance could have been improved, but overall it was a quick and entertaining read. I love seeing queer characters in genres that aren’t romance or contemporary and I can’t wait to see what Tom Ryan has planned next.

Monday mood: wishing I could teleport to this cozy reading spot at @DomsCoffeeLLC ☕️ where I sat finishing Riley Sager’s brilliant book LOCK EVERY DOOR a few weeks ago ‍♀️ • Today on the blog I’m SO excited to share my full review for what’s sure to be one of my favorite reads of the year: Riley Sager’s brilliant psychological thriller, LOCK EVERY DOOR. Modern thrills laced with gothic influences, LOCK EVERY DOOR is Sager’s best book yet. If you love the lore and mystique of Manhattan + classic horror + strong female leads, this book belongs on your TBR. It’s on sale TOMORROW (!!) aka you have just enough time to read my review & snag yourself a copy. Trust me, this book is a summer 2019 MUST. Direct link to my review in my stories AND in my bio!! ‍♀️ • In other news: I finished reading Alex Dahl’s THE HEART KEEPER on my commute this morning, & dang if I didn’t love it. This book was truly VERY different than I was expecting, but what won me over fully was its raw emotion. The majority of this story is a slow-burn leading up to a shocking event; if you’re looking for an action-packed or twisty psychological suspense novel, you’ll want to look elsewhere. BUT that’s not a negative at all. If you’re open to a slow-burn of a story that delves deep into the psyche of a woman grappling with grief, this book is excellent. You’ll feel deep sympathy for a protagonist who is *clearly* doing something very immoral and just plain wrong, and you’ll find yourself hooked on the beating, broken heart at the core of this story. It’s a very unusual book, to be sure, but one that I thoroughly enjoyed. Full review coming soon - stay tuned!! • Ok I’m (selfishly) dying to hear your feedback on my review of LOCK EVERY DOOR... this was one of those books I loved SO much, it felt like an impossible task to do it justice in a review. Cozy Sunday ♡ posting an outtake from a few weeks ago because I truly am too absorbed in my current read to take pics today not a bad problem to have. • I had such a fun day yesterday exploring all over the city, and now today yours truly is staying home & catching up on emails & all things blog related. ‍♀️ I sent out my first CBTB newsletter in QUITE a while this morning, so I’m feeling pretty darn accomplished. I’m also tearing through my current read, THE HEART KEEPER by Alex Dahl • THE HEART KEEPER is on sale in a couple weeks, and if you love suspense novels with strong emotional undercurrents & propulsive pacing, this one belongs on your TBR. Alex Dahl has a knack for writing suspense that seems light on the surface, but grapples with truly challenging themes when you dig a bit deeper. In THE HEART KEEPER, a woman is overcome by grief over the loss of her young daughter in a tragic accident. But not all of her daughter is gone. Her daughter was an organ donor, and another young girl was the recipient of her daughter’s heart. Desperate to feel close to her child, our protagonist tracks down the young girl who now carries her daughter’s heart... and becomes obsessed with getting close to her. This isn’t an overtly violent or super dark story - instead it’s very subtle and nuanced, effectively steeping the reader in our protagonist’s grief. There’s a raw emotion about this story that I’m absolutely loving - you can really feel the author pouring herself into what she’s written here. It’s a slow-burn of a story (as in not a story with shocking twists - more of a slow progression of increasingly bizarre behavior on the part of the protagonist) but I can’t put it down. • What are you reading this Sunday?!

Drinking a coffee at my desk right now & pretending I’m in this cozy reading spot instead • How’s everyone’s week going?! It’s been a busy but really good one over here, spent scheming on fun activities for my authors at this year’s Bouchercon, pitching my summer & fall books, and finishing my re-read of KNIFE by Jo Nesbø (which is SO dang good it’s breaking my heart to see it end. ) I’ll have a new book coming up on my TBR tomorrow, but for now I’m just savoring the final few pages in Nesbø’s incredible July release. It’s been SO great to spend the last week immersed in Nesbø’s world, & now I’m just feeling sad to say goodbye to these characters!! Beyond the intriguing mysteries, vivid atmosphere, & edge-of-your-seat thrills (which are all excellent, I might add ), what really keeps me coming back to this series is the men & women who fill its pages. Nesbø is at his best when writing about the inner lives of his characters - their demons, secrets, and motivations all feel authentic and true to life. I’m probably way too invested in these characters considering that they’re fictional... but here we are. I will genuinely miss being in their world, and am now starting yet another countdown until we meet Harry again. ‍♀️ • In unrelated news: yesterday on the blog I was so thrilled to share a Q&A with Swedish author M.T. I'm now ready for another hot weekend Do you guys, enjoy reading crime fictions? This is by far my favorite genre of literature and as you can tell Agatha Christie is my queen. Particularly, I enjoy her series featuring Hercule Poirot The plot, the time settings, the genius and very peculiar Belgium detective - I love all of it!
