Cacti are my love. ❤️❤️ I already wrote that Galina and I love everything that has thorns & prickles: thistles, spruces and pines, needles,​ hedgehogs​ and of course cacti! I dream to visit Mexico once and admire the huge cacti that grow there. A few years ago in Cyprus, I first tasted the fruits of cactus, opuntia. I pricked my hands because I didn’t know that they are to be taken with special pincers ... Nevertheless I really love prickly and pretty green cacti. By the way, the pattern is called in the English version "Festive Cacti", and in Russian - "New Year's Cacti", because before the last New Year Holidays Galina was going to draw the Christmas trees, but in the process the trees got rounded and turned into cacti ... We present to your attention one more design — the “Groningen sampler” chart. This design is one of the patterns created on the basis of historical embroideries. Groningen samplers were embroidered, as a rule, for interior decoration. They were mostly monochromatic (black or dark brown, sometimes blue). Our chart is not a reconstruction of an old sampler; it is Galina’s fantasy on the subject of Groningen embroidery. Typical motifs of this style are woven into the pattern, it also posesses the characteristic features of the writing of letters and figures: the crowned letter G, the letter “i” in place of figure “1”. You can embroider this pattern with black thread on white fabric to get the result as close as possible to old samplers (as @natasha_matveeva_1978 did, photo 4), or you could experiment with hand-dyed threads. One of the most distinguished and charming works is the work of Marina @pamarinca, which was finished as the decoration of the tray (photos 2-3). The first photo is the work of Galina, our designer, she used a monochrome sectionally dyed blue thread. In our opinion, the elements of this pattern are ideal for hand-dyed threads (photo 5). We held an idea contest last year. Our designer committed to make two designs for the ideas of the winners of the competition, one of which was to become a pattern, and the second - an embroidery kit. This was an idea from Elena @lenasidoroff, one of the winners. We are thankful to her​ for the inspiration! Her text submitted to the contest: .. “Swallows. I have been dreaming for 10 years and there is no good design to embroider them. Maybe I would like a design in the form of a sampler? - I suddenly thought now. My grandmothers had a nest of swallows in a pigsty directly above the hanging lantern. Grandfather cut out a window for them in the door (for swallows, of course) and they flew low in the yard. Every year they flew in and we never doubted that they would arrive soon. So it was, while relatives were alive, then they didn’t come ... But it’s not about sadness at all, it’s about happiness and joy - you remember that time, you remember your loving loved ones thousands of miles away from home and it becomes so joyful in your soul as the morning dawn. I am quite a big girl now, I live in Odessa and I wait for swallows every spring. Swallows have arrived - well, we live, the circle is closed " I hope that I managed to​ reproduce in English at least some part of​ unfeigned sincerity and​ ​ nostalgia of Elena's original text.
