Day 15, from the Romans Study "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved!" We would love for you to join us in reading the excerpt below from today's devotion. (From Day 38) ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ "You see, our natural tendency when looking at today's theme verse is to do so in the context of self. Of our own salvation story. Of our own growth and relationship with the Lord. And of how thankful we are for Him (which is not bad). ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ But Paul tells us of this truth for a different purpose... ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ He wants to highlight the open door that is “FOR EVERYONE” who calls on Jesus’ name. The subject is not you and I - people who are already saved - but everyone else who has the ability to call. And in pointing us to them, he shows us our role... ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ For if people are to call on Jesus, they must first believe. If people are to believe in Jesus, they must first hear of Him. If people are to hear of Jesus, they must first be talked to (preached to). If people are to be preached to, then “preachers” must first be sent. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ And we all know what Jesus commands in Matthew 28... “Go.” ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ The point of this passage is make us aware of God’s greater plan: He has opened wide the doors of salvation but has chosen to instill in you and I the very message that directs people there. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ Faith is the product of the spoken, seen, and experienced words of Christ. And you and I are the vessels to which it is communicated. We are His actual mouthpieces. Though there will be some who disagree with the words - who hear, yet deny its validity - the command to preach, to teach, to evangelize, and to spread the “good news” remains. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ We have the amazing opportunity to spread “goodness” to a world without it... ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ But let’s ask ourselves...
