Tonight watching "The Sea Chase" for the first time. Came across this movie when looking through Tab Hunter's filmography. Tab, who sadly passed away earlier this week, was an actor I always knew and read about, but had never seen any of his films. This will not only mark my first film with him, but also my first film with John Wayne. My 11th movie of 1947, and what a film! Black Narcissus, another fantastic Powell & Press burger masterpiece. My brief synopsis is that it's an erotica thriller about nuns, but that sounds campy and sells the movie short. Deborah Kerr leads a group of nuns to the Himalayas where they're tested to their core and show all the human emotions. This is possibly the most visually beautiful movie I've ever seen. The acting is superb, especially Deborah Kerr. With just a slight smile or quiver of her chin she shows unbelievable range. Kathleen Byron as the unhinged Sister Ruth is dynamite. Flora Robson (Sister Philippa) has one heartbreaking scene, and David Farrar is excellent as a world weary British agent. Look for Jean Simmons in a very sexy early role. This is a must see, and the climactic scene could be cut out and put in a modern movie. One of my new favorite films!
