Welcome to Potters Bluff. ‘From the creators of Alien’ That was music to my ears back in 81, so off I go to see this little shocker, ‘Dead and Buried’, and I’ve been a fan ever since. Big city sheriff Dan Gillis played by James Farentino has returned home to sleepy little coastal town Potters Bluff, only for him to have to start investigating a series of very brutal deaths, but local weird old mortician Dobbs played by a magnificent Jack Albertson seems to be having a good time despite all the horror. As Dan investigates the murders, he starts to unfold a plot that might involve his wife played by Melody Anderson as well as other townsfolk including a pre Freddy Kruger Robert Englund. The murderous setpieces are creepy and damn gory, wonderful Fx by still to be famous Stan Winston, they are creative and often surprising, one of them still gives me the fucking creeps all these years later... yeeuch!! But best of all, there’s an actual story going on, it’s really engaging,atmospheric with several great surprises, witchcraft, Voodoo, makeup,and a great whodunnit story,with some Lovecraft overtones, why this little flick is not better known is a fucking mystery to me, because it’s as good if not better than several already established 80’s horror classics. This is definitely a turn off the lights and cozy up with a friend movie, it deserves a bigger audience, you need to give it a shot, the film was banned in the UK during the ridiculous Video Nasties episode, so for a few years it was illegal to possess a copy, insane. #yousuckatwatchingmovies #deadandburied #moviereview
