"My five-year-old son, who has hearing loss, continues to surprise me. In fact, there is a growing list of characteristics he possesses that at one point I didn’t think was possible. One in particular, involves his leadership abilities.
Leadership is not a characteristic for a select few, it’s a characteristic for anybody that wants to grab hold of and express. It means speaking up for yourself and others, stepping into challenges, and sticking with a problem even when it’s hard. It can be flashy, but most the time it’s found in small and simple moments of bravery. I know that the use of Phonak Sky hearing aids and Roger Touchscreen Mic help Ayden grab a hold of and express the leader inside of him. "

"The sweetness and tenderness of this moment takes my breath away. The best part is these moments happen every single day. When a hearing aid flips off her ear or pops out, both of my boys are so eager, willing and happy to help her. It’s simple. But it’s such a beautiful moment to me........................... I’m reading a #memoir by @jenpastiloff called #onbeinghuman. She speaks many truths, but her challenge to hunt for beauty might be my favorite. #beautyhunting #hearinglossadvocate #lifeison #hearinglosswontstopme #phonakkids #phonakhearingaids"

I CANT BELIEVE IT! 2 years and 4 months old and today he’s finally taken his first steps He only sees physio every month so I’ve been doing a lot at home on my own with him and this morning he took his first 4 steps alone getting him to do it again to take a video for physio was a bigger battle though I’ve honestly never cried so much over something so positive! We can do this baby boy! #deafandproud #additionalneeds #firststeps
The topic of expanding Gracie’s asl vocabulary in prep for much more complex curriculum as she gets older is one that is totally fascinating to me. It came up in her IEP with specifically implemented goals in place to build this sign language library in her brain over time. Gracie will go on to learn about all subjects of our world- geography, government, science, history, math etc - subjects I largely wouldn’t ever NEED to know or look up the signs for, but she will as her education builds. I asked her today what the sign was for a city we are visiting and she knew right away. Showed me signs for 10 or 12 other cities too. I asked her how she knows those signs and she shrugs. That makes me almost cry because it means she’s absorbing asl as naturally as English and the signs stick there in her brain flawlessly. She picks up signs in conversation as naturally as she does new words in English. To think there was a time when Brandon and I sat with a neurologist, crying, staring at digital images of tiny calcifications in Gracies brain just blows my mind. Look at her now!! || Someone’s pretty excited about our trip!
