Blue Blazer is a flaming cocktail invented by Jerry Thomas, who decided to entertain one of his clientele. It involves two metal mugs with handles. Warmed with water, high proof whiskey that was lit on fire, then the bartender would pour 3/4 of the flaming liquid from one mug to the other, back and forth and gradually increase the distance of the two mugs. Eventually, add the liquid to a snifter with sugar and add lemon peel. It is a drink meant for cold weather, such as Denver in early April. . . . I have never had a blue blazer in my life, so I wouldn't pass the opportunity when I saw it on the menu at Union Lodge No 1 @unionlodge1. The modified version pays the homage to Thomas, named "Red, White, and Blue Blazer", with 151 Hamilton Demerara rum, 100 proof Old Grand Dad, Laird Applejack, cinnamon and house bitters blend. . . . Also, for the camera nerd, the image was taken in pretty dark space, at 1/30 shutter speed and f1.2. I was asked recently about my favorite brunch cocktails, I am not a Mimosa or Bloody Mary person, so I couldn't really answer ‍♀️. But the brunch at The Ramble Hotel by @deathandcompany is fantastic, the brunch cocktail menu is as long as the food menu itself. Here is Corretto that I had, pretty low ABV, got milk and espresso, what more could you ask for a brunch cocktail? Corretto: Nardini Amaro @distilleria.nardini , coconut milk, vanilla, espresso and sea salt.
