Dick Dale on the Ed Sullivan Show, 1963. In this clip, he plays a portion of 'The Wedge' The song was released as a single under Capitol in 1963 with 'Night Rider' as the B side. It also appeared on his third studio album 'Checkered Flag' which was also released under Capitol that year.
I'd highly recommend watching the entirety of his Ed Sullivan performance, as it is packed with incredible playing and glimpses of other songs like 'Misirlou' and we even see him singing 'Swingin' and A-Surfin'' at the beginning. I have a link for this, so be sure to message me if you're interested in seeing it.
Dick has got to be one of my favourite guitarists by far - he has truly mastered the instrument and his strings being in reverse order shows his ineffable amounts of talent. Such an underrated musician.

Awful to hear of the passing of surf rock pioneer, Dick Dale. Over the years, he has delivered us some incredible music and has created his own perfect and inimitable style. There could never be a musician as great as Dick, and I only wish I had had the chance to see him perform and thank him for being such an inspiration. May he rest peacefully

Richard Anthony Monsour (May 4, 1937 – March 16, 2019), better known by his stage name Dick Dale, was an American rock guitarist, known as The King of the Surf Guitar. He pioneered and created what many call the surf music style, drawing on Middle-Eastern music scales and experimenting with reverberation.

Dale worked closely with Fender to produce custom made amplifiers, including the first-ever 100-watt guitar amplifier. He pushed the limits of electric amplification technology, helping to develop new equipment that was capable of producing distorted, "thick, clearly defined tones" at "previously undreamed-of volumes." The "breakneck speed of his single-note staccato picking technique" and showmanship with the guitar is considered a precursor to heavy metal music, influencing guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen.

On a day like this the king of the surf guitar was born. Happy birthday Mr. DICK DALE born Richard Anthony Mansour on May 4, 1937 is an American surf rock guitarist. Dick Dale wasn't nicknamed "King of the Surf Guitar" for nothing: he pretty much invented the style single-handedly, and no matter who copied or expanded upon his blueprint, he remained the fieriest, most technically gifted musician the genre ever produced. He pioneered the surf music style, drawing on Middle-Eastern music scales and experimenting with reverberation. He worked closely with Fender to produce custom made amplifiers, including the first-ever 100-watt guitar amplifier. And our legendary guitar solo of the day is the solo performed in "MISIRLOU" by the legend himself. "Misirlou" is a traditional song from the Eastern Mediterranean region. The earliest known recording of the song is a 1927 Greek rebetiko / tsifteteli composition influenced by Middle Eastern music. The Boston-born guitar icon released "Misirlou" whose title translates literally to "Egyptian Girl" in 1962, a track he claimed to have recorded 95 times in an effort to reduce the oceans of reverb that ultimately defined surf rock.
