A super reactive dog coming into my seminar this morning. I love these guys because we get to make some awesome progress over the weekend. No dog is ever “too badly behaved” for my seminars. I work with every dog on every problem, and most importantly I teach owners how to address and troubleshoot these issues on their own. It’s going to be a great weekend here in Mantua, NJ.
Steve’s first off muzzle social with a leash drag. He is a reactive dog and while he has never actually been in a dog fight, he has had some close encounters in the past. -
We have done many socials with him on the muzzle and felt he was ready to take it off. -
Steve has been patterned to be calm around dogs and has a lot less interest in them than when he first got here (barking and lunging toward them.) This is the behavior we want from every dog-Existence. -
Steve is much too large to be rough housing in a social, and an overly aroused state of mind would probably lead him into making some poor choices. Right now, we are focusing on his social experiences being super positive and very safe.
Lets make Muzzle Up Monday happen!
Do you know the importance of muzzle training? Do you want to be an advocate for muzzle training?
Even if your dog may never need a muzzle, teaching them to wear one can be a life saving skill!
Any dog can bite when they are in pain or frightened. Some dogs because of their size, breed, or location must wear muzzles in public.
Other dogs benefit from muzzles by being prevented from eating dangerous things or using their mouth in inappropriate ways.
Every Monday, I want challenge you to share a #muzzleupmonday post. Whether that be a dog in a muzzle, teaching your dog to wear one, or simply sharing a thought about them, or sharing someone else’s post! We need to get rid of the stigma and encourage others that muzzles are good things and every dog can benefit from learning to wear one!
Don’t have a muzzle? Try some muzzle up games with a cup, or other similar object your dog can practice putting their snout in.
Be sure to tag me so that I can share! ❤️

Because of our muzzles, we’re best buddies!
It’s #muzzleupmonday folks! That means we’re going to share some muzzle benefits and insights and we challenge you to do the same. Post, share, educate! Get the word out to help break the stigma and educate the public of the positive uses of muzzles.
Featured in this photo is our friend @mochi_and_kiwi
Mochi gets nervous when meeting new dogs because he doesn’t like when they are very high energy or all up in his face. I’ve been helping him and his doggie parents utilize a muzzle, some counter conditioning, recall practice in distracted moments, and positive socialization to help Mochi know what to do when he gets overwhelmed.
Mochi here is actually harmless, but because when he gets nervous, he growls, this makes others nervous. We utilize the muzzle to help everyone feel comfortable, including Mochi!
Without these muzzles, I would have been reluctant to introduce Tucker and Mochi.
Tucker doesn’t always respond well to confrontation by other dogs. The muzzle helps me know that even if he is challenged, confronted or annoyed, he will never be at fault.
These two boys have become pretty good buds over the last several weeks. I think maybe that they appreciate the moral support

We train so that my best friends and I can enjoy every adventure together.
Recently on a phone interview for a secret project, I was asked what my goal or purpose is when training dogs.
I said “My goal is not to hand you a dog that will obey your every command. My goal is to help you and your dog build your relationship and communication skills. So that you can have a best friend who gets enjoy being a part of every adventure with you.
That’s what my training is all about. It allows you to have clear communication with each other so that you can enjoy life to its fullest with your best friend by your side.”
If you watched my Instagram story yesterday, you’ll see just that. Am I focused on sit, down stay? No. Those things can be important, but what’s most valuable to me is being able to share as much of life with my best friends as possible.
Sup with your pup is one of those things that certainly takes a lot of really great communication. This was my first time attempting it with both pups after only doing it once before with Oakley.
I was so amazed and proud of them. They couldn’t have been more perfect partners for this fun adventure.
