Hey Guys! I'd like to introduce you all to Gerda. ❄️ She's a very special, new doll that I have had the pleasure of working on for the past several months. From start to finish, along with an extremely talented group of Toy Professionals and Friends, Gerda came to life! For the next week or so, I will take you through the development process of this Beautiful doll that was created for my client and friend from Russia. I hope you enjoy! And please don't forget to leave your comments letting us know what you think ... #Gerda #RussianDoll #Newdoll2017 #dollprototype #handpainted #denisamedrano @peter_panikk FlorenceSunoo @mariogesualdi AnnaRhee @howlvin
For #SupergirlStuffSunday, here is one of my prototype recreations! In 1992, Mattel pitched a She-Ra-esque Wonder Woman cartoon/toy line to DC called Wonder Woman and the Star Riders. The pitch never made it past the prototype stage, and the doll tooling was used for other lines. The line sort of lives on in a legend of what could have been, but few people realize Supergirl was also intended to be in the line! The only evidence of this is one black and white prototype photo from a magazine, and a Jose Garcia-Lopez color control art page that found its way to ebay years ago. Using these two images, I recreated the prototype as best I could. Her hair is a little bit flatter, and the curl I put in it fell out, but otherwise I think it’s spot on. #supergirl #princesstenko #wonderwomanandthestarriders #mattel #dollprototype #dollrecreation #customdoll
A quick "scrap" mold of a prototype Shaydemon face (decided to change their name a tiny little bit :U). I couldnt make monsterclay face as smooth as I wanted, so I used quick curing silicone to pour a scrap mold (it also has a few bubbles trapped since it's pot life is like 5 minutes). Then I made a cast which will be fixed and polished until its perfectly smooth and even....then I'll make another, proper mold (using long curing silicone) and pop some perfect BJD quality monster faces <3 #remjie #moldmaking #silicone #shaydemon #dollmaking #instaart #progress #dollprototype
I was so excited to receive Moonglow yesterday from @rainbowbriteco , so I did a little side-by-side comparison so you can see some of the differences between my prototype doll, and the production version. They aren’t huge differences, but they’re interesting! A couple of disclaimers: my prototype Moonglow has been on display in either my home or work for nearly 35 years. She’s never been in a box or covered, so she might be a tiny bit faded, and her face is a little smudgy. I’ve never cleaned her, because her face is hand-painted, and I don’t want to damage the face deco. ⬅️ scroll through the photos, and you can see some of the differences. First off, the most noticeable difference is the skirt color of the prototype is greener and paler. I am not sure if she has faded, or if the are just different colors. My guess is the latter. I know I wanted the lightest possible colors for her outfit, so most likely, the production color was just slightly different. You can also see the difference in how the moon icon at her waist was sewn, and how the original straps were constructed differently than production. Also notice that the prototype doll has a higher quality tricot fabric on her shoulder ruffle and overskirt. That’s a manufacturing decision- to save a penny or two with lighter weight fabric. On the closeup of the eyes, you’ll notice the original Moonglow had lower lashes, and slightly paler lips. You can zoom in to see the hand-painted eyes, it’s fun to see the imperfections. I didn’t paint these eyes, but later on, at Hasbro, I learned how to do paintmasters, and did dozens of them- learning how to accurately paint teeny eyelashes and highlights. For the hair- the production doll hair yarn has a slight sheen to it, where the prototype is more matte. The prototype is a tiny bit lighter, but that might be due to some fading. Do you notice any other details? (Obv the production Dolly is missing her boots- i hope to eventually get or make replacements) #lifeofatoydesigner #rainbowbrite #moonglowdoll #matteldesigner #rainbowbritedesigner #prototypedoll #dollprototype #1980sdolls #1980stoys
