Keen for the Milford Sound but not so keen on the crowds? Try its more peaceful neighbour the Doubtful Sound. Sometimes called 'the Sound of Silence', there is a sense of serenity within Doubtful Sound that contrasts with Milford Sound. Keep an eye out for bottlenose dolphins, fur seals and penguins

Checked a massive item off the bucket list today!! Exploring Milford Sound by kayak is something I’ve dreamed of for years! My guide told me a story about the legend of how Milford Sound came to be and the moral of the story ended up being to remember you’re only just a visitor. Spend time, enjoy it but respect the land and leave without a trace. I think this is how we should treat all travel. I see so many tourists coming into foreign countries and demanding to be comfortable all the time, or for people to speak their language.. we have to remember that other countries and places aren’t meant to serve us.. no matter how much money we spend to be there. We are only visitors, there to appreciate something new to us that doesn’t belong to us.
Do you agree?
Over the past few months I’ve been lucky enough to spend a considerable amount of time in Fiordland National Park. Although Mt Cook will always have my heart this national park is also pretty spectacular. I’ve never in my life been to such a diverse, rich and ever changing place, it’s true when they say no two days are the same. The hikes, the cruises and the sunsets are truly mind blowing. Milford Sound is definitely everyone’s main focus when in this park with Doubtful Sound being its lesser known Fiord. There’s something that always draws me back to right here, the remote Sound, the wildlife and the mystery. Fiordland, you are wonderful ✨
While this may just look like a typical swimming picture, this is actually one of the things I'm most proud of that I did while we were in New Zealand. And that is me, swimming in Doubtful Sound. The water is about 55 degrees and the top layer is so dark because of all the tannins from the run off of the mountains. What an experience! Although it was about 3 minutes and my head hurt so bad from the cold and I couldn't stop shaking until after my hot shower, it was completely worth it and I would do it again! •

I recently went to Doubtful Sound with @thelittlebrave & for three whole hours we were speechless. It was the most incredible day surrounded by one of mother nature’s finest gifts to Earth... @goorangenz have kindly given me 2 tickets to give away so you can experience the magic for yourself... Let me know who you would take with you below in the comments and follow @goorangenz & the winner will be announced next week
I bought a wall calendar and it’s probably my favourite purchase ever, I know, how sad! But... I can map out and see all our plans and trips & 2019 adventures are starting to shape up nicely. I’m planning plenty of mountain hikes, time in Fiordland National Park and a few overseas trips... first being Nepal. Tell me what you’re excited for this year, plans, trips, aspirations? ✨
Life is far to short to not appreciate the little things right? The little things being feeling the wind in my hair as I hung off the side of this Boat elated at mountains surrounding us! I will treasure moments like this and the time we had this day in Doubtful Sound, thank you for being my wing woman @thelittlebrave
Have you ever connected so deeply with a place that everytime you go you get goosebumps and have a totally different experience each visit? Well Doubtful Sound for the third time did exactly that. I can’t quite explain it, it’s so mysteriously beautiful, I swear there’s pure magic in those waters✨
