It’s mating season! Here is a big old and worn grizzly bear rubbing on a scent-marking tree. Look at those scars on his face and that broken claw! He’s likely been in a few fights for dominance with other males. Swipe to see who was following him... That’s a female grizzly who came by just a few minutes later, probably in pursuit of the male. Trail cameras are such a cool way to observe bear behaviour behind the scenes.

CLAY LICK One of the main reasons to visit #Tambopata was to see the clay licks. Hundreds of macaws and other parrots frequently gather here to, well "lick clay", what they actually do is to compliment their diet with sodium. Salt is a rare commodity in western Amazonia, so animals don't get enough of it with their usual diet. However, they have learned how to help themselves by feeding on soil rich in sodium. For a long time there was also a hypothesis suggesting, that the clay is used to neutralise toxins that parrots ingest with their plant based diet. However, that hypothesis has been dismissed and the lack of salt seems to be the main driver behind animals visiting clay licks. One thing I learnt the last few years is that everybody has a different opinion and you have to live your life the way you want to live it! We often get caught in what others tell us to do or believe because it’s easier to tell others what to do, but to implement it on yourself! Alwas stay true to who you are!

Chasing light became a part of my life. This passion grew bigger then I could imagine and it feels like I can’t live without these magical moments! Watching the sun rise in the morning while the birds sing their songs until the sun fades away behind the horizon, enjoy these moments while you can!
