My daughter bought 16 watermelon plants “accidentally” at an auction this weekend when she raised her hand and the auctioneer took her bid. I wasn’t right there with her to see this happen but I did see her crying hysterically, went over to her to see what happened and she told the story and said I was just joking and don’t have any money I didn’t want to get them. I found out Grandma said it’s fine we like watermelon and we went on our way finding homes for some the watermelon plants. We planted 4 plants in Grandma and Grandpa’s garden (shown above) and have 6 to plant here, we gave family the remaining 6 plants. This summer we may be selling watermelon along the road! “Find something you love and do it well” but don’t be afraid to make changes. This little one recently told me she wanted to be a doctor when she grew up. The next day it was a helper to just help her little brother. The next minute it changed to a farmer to milk the cows. Today she wants to drive the tractor, work with her parents, feed the cows, be a vet, get married and have children. Everyday is something new and that is what I love about her fresh outlook. She knows she doesn’t have to settle for anything and that nothing needs to be decided today. Our journey as farmers started as children. Both Clayton and I were raised on Jersey dairy farms. We met as children through this shared connection and reconnected because of our cows too. I always feel like pasta salads scream summer. And I am ready for summer to get here! And can it be any better than a pasta salad served with a delicious cheeseburger during a picnic lunch? I don’t think so. This BLT Pasta Salad was a dish I made for my kids birthday party last fall and I still get requests for the recipe. I used the classic BLT ingredients but I stepped it up with the addition of cheddar cheese, Ranch dressing and bowtie noodles! Whenever I can add more dairy I sure take advantage of it! FOOD and COOKING is one of the founding principles for my family. There is nothing better than spending a few hours in the kitchen with my Mom, sister or other family members talking, eating while we cook, and making a wonderful meal. This dish is sweet and sour pork and is a favorite of ours. The recipe came from my moms family and homemade egg rolls complete the meal. We celebrated my Dad’s birthday this weekend with quite the meal and it was mighty delicious.
