summer florals marigolds + coreopsis on silk crepe

We’ve been submerged in a new world. A world of color, of dabbling with a new craft and creating more possibilities for people to connect with the plants that surround them. . So things have been quiet around here. But behind the scenes we’ve been designing dye gardens, planning our summer crops, and getting ready for our best workshop line up EVER!! We have workshops coming up on cheese making (with @theblacksheepschool ), bamboo design & carpentry (with @bambooubali), the permaculture skills retreat, bio-intensive growing (with @roebuckfarm) and the workshop I am personally most excited about is this one....The Home Natural Dyer: Eco Printing and More with the amazing @tourisia of @cintabumiartisans. . We have an incredible 3 day journey into natural dyeing planned. Together we will be coaxing color from forest forage and leftover kitchen scraps. Mango, noni, avocado and marigolds are just some of the plants we will be working with to create yellows, oranges, reds and pinks. You’ll dye & #ecoprint your own silk scarves, a cloth bag, linen pouch and craft your own dyers journal. . We’re gifting everyone who joins a Natural Dye Starter Kit- a handbook, some mordant, dye plants and fabric that will ensure you’re all set to begin plant dyeing right after the workshop! . Starting April 14 & 15 you’ll find me at @brooklyngeneralstore teaching three different classes: Natural Dye Gardens- Plotting & Planning, Natural Dyeing, & Backyard Chickens! Then on April 20th, join the Hudson Valley Knitters Retreat (see details from @cornwallyarnshop & @mjpacker) for a relaxing spring get together including a day-long Natural Dyeing workshop here on the farm and lots of time to enjoy the lambs and more. May 18, 19 & 20 I’ll be teaching Eco Printing, Natural Dyeing, Indigo Dyeing & Shibori with the @fiberretreat by Purity Lake in Madison, NH. Last, but not least, May 25, I am hosting @vtcrafttours for a Day of Dyeing and serving a yummy local, farm to table lunch amidst some very pretty pastoral background. S E A S O N S It has been 6 days of slow living by the lake and I am finally ready to dabble in sketching, researching pigments, flower pressing, paper making and perhaps even experimenting with making ink from summer wildflowers. Deep breath...maybe not all of those at once, but the ideas are percolating. I am learning to ride these seasons of creative ebb and flow and appreciate how doing “nothing” can lead to oh so much of “something “. I found a whole page of these pressed treasures in a library book on pressing flowers today!

EDITED: In some of the darkest, most stressful parts of my life... This color emerges. THIS COLOR. This color that actually made me cry. Is it because I need a good cry? Maybe. Is it because I didn't want to do it but I did it anyways? I DID IT. So many times I want to give up but I don't...
