RU⤵️The end of the 19th century witnessed an important change in the female bodice shape and the renowned «S» silhouette appearance. To achieve the desired lines, ladies abandoned their bustles, instead, they adopted bust enhancers and a tight shaping corset forcing one’s hips backward and pushing the breast forward. ▫️ The latter was often compared with a pigeon chest and referred to as “pouter pigeon” or even “monobosom”. To emphasise and exaggerate this illusion, ladies wore tops tucked in, tight at the waist but with quite an excessive fabric in front. It was beautifully pleated or smocked and decorated with ruffles, buttons, ribbons and lace. ▫️ The «S» shape was in vogue till 1905 and faded away by 1910. ▫️ For the upcoming Edwardian Spring challenge in March hosted by @faces_and_style ▫️ Характерной формой женской фигуры конца XIX века был S-образный силуэт. John George Lobstein, a Chicago lumber mill magnate and cabinet maker, built this 11-room Victorian on the 900 block of Elgin Avenue in Forest Park in 1894 for his second wife, Adaline Louis. Here they raised 9 children total. Considering he owned a lumber mill, it's no surprise that John Lobstein's home is full of lavish millwork, all made of different woods like cherry, oak, and birds-eye maple. Lobstein's son, Theodore, later ran a bank and real estate company near Elgin Avenue on Roosevelt Road. . Believe it or not, but this old home is considered to be haunted. A previous owner recalls hearing footsteps pace back and forth in the attic. Other strange occurrences: cold spots, the sound of a child running in the upstairs hall, ghostly figures in the window, and the sound of an explosion every November 6th. .
