This 1660-69 bodice is trimmed with parchment lace. It is typical of 1600’s fashion, off the shoulder neckline with cartridge pleat sleeves. The smile that was plastered on my face this past week after being surprised by my very own gown lovingly designed and made by @virtuouscourtesan. ⠀⠀ Words don’t do justice to it... and repeating thank you a thousand times still wouldn’t be enough. Lauren knows though. The gratitude was bursting out. My cheeks hurt from the constant huge smile, and my eyes teared tons. ⠀⠀ Designing a piece for someone other than herself, her sky high aptitude for fashion design combines with the artistry of the whole. That means that it wouldn’t do to just have something well made to adorn me with. It had to push her in someway (she challenges herself to grow with each project), and it has to be “right” for me too. ⠀⠀ As you all know, I’m obsessed with Fortuny. Especially his forays into fashion and how they have inspired fashion since. ⠀⠀ Lauren took that on, making something clearly of her own, inspired by Fortuny, in a way that shows off her ingenuity and skill. The most perfect thing. ⠀⠀ Fortuny took ideas centuries old and brought them into the modern world. Lauren’s tagline is that she sews historical clothing tinged with a modern aesthetic. I find it a beautiful cycle of inspiration between antiquity, medieval, Georgian, early 20th and now early 21st all intricately and perfectly interwoven. ⠀⠀ Do you love it as much as I do?
