Each year, the BScBA program welcomes about 60-70 exchange students to study in the program. This summer, Miguel and Pedro decided to come to study in Mikkeli for six weeks all the way from Mexico. “My experience in Mikkeli was magical with the sunsets, the people and the Finnish way of living. This time, let's say hi to Valtteri, a 2nd year BScBA student, who is currently working as a Business Development Manager at Fintrade-Mercer Group in Hong Kong. “As a gateway service, our main business is to bring companies from Finland to Hong Kong, China, and Asia Pacific. My official title is Business Development Manager. What it means in reality, is that I assist with different tasks related to business strategy and marketing. My work also includes a lot of being in contact with clients in Finland and across Asia-Pacific, event organizing, and market research. I’m happy to have a job where I’m given a lot of responsibility. So far, I’ve been mainly working on one large project: recently, we had a delegation of Finnish Cyber Security Companies visiting Hong Kong and Shenzhen. I took part in organizing the program for the week and was also in Shenzhen with the delegation for a four-day business trip. ▫ ️ For my master’s studies and future career, this position gives me valuable international experience and new perspectives. For working life, this definitely helps me to understand what an international career would be like. ▫️ Studying in Mikkeli has prepared me well for my current position. Naturally, especially studies in marketing and finance have been useful in my work. In addition, soft skills Mikkeli has taught me have turned out being equally important. For instance, our fast study pace, intensive courses, amount of teamwork and presentations have helped me a great deal in my current work. Working in Hong Kong can be very fast paced, and the working culture is somewhat different compared to Finland. Moreover, consulting is essentially project-based teamwork, sometimes with a lot of ambiguity. Mikkelin kampuksen International Business -kandidaattiohjelman opiskelijoilla oli viime viikolla aihetta juhlaan, sillä ohjelman ainejärjestö @probbary täytti 30 vuotta. ° Vuosijuhlissa nautittiin herkullisesta illallisesta, kuultiin lukuisia puheita ja illan aikana kaksi opiskelijaa palkittiin hyvästä yhteishengen luomisesta. ° Juhlat päättyivät musiikkiesitysten siivittämänä tanssilattialla. In Mikkeli, various clubs organize many great events throughout the year. Last Wednesday, the BScBA students had the tastiest event of the year, the annual Baba Fat Camp. In the event, students travelled around the sunny Mikkeli in various cafés and restaurants, where they ate different mouth-watering snacks and foods. The event was organized together by the student organization Probba ry and the very own cuisine club of the BscBA students, Baba's Kitchen, which provided the hungry students with muffins at the first checkpoint. At the end of the event, the best eaters were awarded with food prizes and after the long journey many babas went to Pankalampi beach to digest all the tasty treats and to enjoy the slowly dimming summer evening of Mikkeli.
