When we acknowledge that our children are our mirrors, and they reflect out to the world the beauty within us, but also the pain, we can learn more about triggers. A trigger is a response to something that our child did or said, that disproportionately triggered us (thank you @the.holistic.psychologist ). This is why our children's behaviour doesn't trigger others, the teachings and the lessons are for us, but we must be 'awake' to truly see them. I was always triggered by Seren. Her whirlwind behaviour, crazy antics, impulsivity, & strong-willed personality would drive me crazy. The more she acted this way, the further we grew apart. The less time I wanted to spend with her, and honestly, the more I wished that one day we could put her in boarding school (I kid you not). When I look back now, those were the things that I didn't accept or like about myself. I craved to be 'normal'. I wished so hard that I was calm, regulated, maybe even shy and retiring, but this isn't how I was made. We are all brought to this earth for a reason, we are all destined for greatness. We cannot live out the true path when we are wanting to be someone else. Social media is fantastic, but it can also drive us away from the very essence of our uniqueness as we strive to be someone else; comparison can be devasting. Two years ago I read a book by @louise_hay_affirmations called 'You can heal your life'. I also read 'Dying to be me' by @anitamoorjani. What I realised is that I was destroying myself through a lack of self-love. I would say unkind things to myself, I would think cruel things, in fact, it got a lot gloomier than this (check out my "How my spirituality is healing my PMDD" youtube video to understand this more). I realised that I needed to love all the parts of myself, including the shadows, the past, and who I was at this moment. I began putting up post-it notes on my mirror saying "you are enough", "I love you', and I whenever I would hear my ego with its negative, unkind comments. (rest in comments)

Why can one teacher manage your child, but the next can’t? Why can one grandparent manage your child, but the other can’t? Why can one expert give you advice that feels warm in your heart, yet the other expert makes you feel like there is something gravely wrong with your child? Why does your child make you so angry, yet this doesn’t seem to bother you partner (or vice versa). The answer comes down to triggering. I see it so clearly now, but years ago I couldn’t see it. I didn’t believe in myself as a mother, how could I when I had a spirited child. What did I know about parenting, I was clearly failing? Yet here’s the thing, it was the other adults that were failing, not my child. The ones that were giving me incorrect advice. The ones who were so deeply triggered by my child that they would tell me incorrect truths about my parenting and my child’s behaviour. I see this now like a neon flashing sign ‘Their wounded inner child was being triggered’. It should also come with a siren, ‘alert, alert, alert’. If anyone is giving you advice about your child that is to do with fear and control, and not love and connection, they are not your people. If they do not see your child as a whole, with an energetic personality that simply wants to be heard, seen and validated, they are not your people. If they want to ridicule your parenting and tell you to be more firm, put in more control, more parameters; they are not your people. See their words mirroring back to their inner child. The child that wasn’t seen, heard or validated and SEE that the only issue here is their issue. Your child is simply just being themselves and its the adult’s in their world that are being triggered by their inner wounded child. If you head to my bio @susy_parker, you can read my blogs on this. _ It’s not their fault, it’s been a parenting and teaching mistake over the last few generations that has cost us all greatly. We’ve become seperate from ourselves and from each other. We haven’t learned to love ourselves and each other. Fear and disconnect has been in the driving seat and it’s up to us to change it. Have faith in yourself & your child and witness the triggers that surround you.

That tiny, beautiful, baby boy on the left, has turned into this huge 8-year old on the right today. Just like your brother Jude, life has certainly not been easy since you came along, but also by far all the better for you being a part of it. Your curiosity of all around you, your sense of humour, your cheekiness, and determination, light up my world every day we’re together. Of the eight years we’ve shared this has definitely been the most difficult one. The last 12 months have seen you struggle to regulate your emotions, seem uncomfortable in your own skin, and at times be completely out of control. It’s been heartbreaking to watch. Despite that, there’s also been some amazing achievements too. Toileting, learning to communicate with an iPad, and your understanding of language, to name but a few. Plus of course your new found love of horse riding. Some days are easy. A smile is never far from our faces, and we share the highest of highs. Other days you test every ounce of patience I have, and we experience the lowest of lows. Just know that me, your mum, and the many people who love you, are doing everything we can to make life easier for you. To help you cope with the many challenges the world throws at you each day, to help you be more content. Happy birthday Tom-Tom. I promise the next 12 months will be even better ones ❤️
